What could have led to that first clandestine sexual tryst between his wife and the least imagined partner, was a mystery that emasculated Craig Lowe, leaving him as sexless as a gutted snowbird. Only able to contend through the numbing of hard liquor leading to an almost continuous thirst during his waking hours. With opportunities for sexual encounters, while the need was present, the physical response was not. Change came through a series of first time circumstances when he met an attractive woman he had know in their childhood. With their fathers employed in a mobile occupation, they changed areas and schools several times, causing a clinging and closeness of a sibling relationship. Shirley was no longer thought of as a gangling, knobby kneed sibling, but an appetizingly attractive woman. Through a relaxed familiarity of having lived and slept together, and skinny dipped in horse troughs as children, although knowing little about each other, they soon regained the closeness of their earlier years, but with the additional wants and need of the adult world. They soon found that each was the missing link in the others life, but when each others past caught up with them, all did not end well.

An intrepid scientist and her fiancé—National Geographic's 2007 Adventurers of the Year—observe the changing ocean while rowing across the Atlantic. In 2005-06, Julie Angus and her fiancé Colin rowed 10,000 kilometers across the Atlantic Ocean—from Lisbon to Costa Rica—making Angus the first woman in the world to travel from mainland to mainland in a rowboat. The 145-day journey gave Angus, a trained biologist, a unique perspective on the ocean. The slow-moving boat became an ecosystem unto itself, attracting barnacles, dorado fish, trigger fish, turtles, sharks, whales, birds, and more, which she was able to observe and document. Angus also saw unmistakable signs of the ocean’s devastation, with far more plastic bottles, wrappers, toys, and bags than sharks or other once-common sea life. Four cyclones, including two hurricanes, hammered the small boat so intensely that Angus and her companion weren't sure they would survive. Rowboat in a Hurricane records this amazing journey in meticulous, dramatic detail, in the process offering a personal record of an awe-inspiring ecosystem, its fascinating denizens, and the mounting threats to its existence.

Hurricane IKE wiped out the entire Bolivar Peninsula of Galveston County, Texas leaving a mere "bomb explosion" effect on the community. It took over two week before residents where allowed onto their ravished properties, to see the horrendous destruction. It was a nightmare to all that returned. There are stories of our residents that stayed during the storm thinking it was only a Category 2 Hurricane. This book is dedicated to the stories that we will never hear and to all of the survival stories that we are thankful that we do have. The residents of the Bolivar Peninsula, Texas went through a life time experience with Hurricane IKE. On September 13, 2008, Hurricane IKE ravished the entire Bolivar Peninsula, Texas. It left the peninsula bare as if a bomb had exploded. The entire Gulf of Mexico churned with winds reaching 275 miles from the eye. The gulf side of Florida witnessed miles of beaches as the ocean was entirely submerging the Bolivar Peninsula in Texas. The residents of the Peninsula have our own unique stories and memories to share through each of our individual eyes. We lived through the unbelievable, the unknowing, the destruction, the loss, the love, the spiritual and the comeback! These are our stories, as our entire lives changed within a blink of an eye!
