It was thought that, by drawing the Sailor' s attention to the methods by which the Lights are produced, it would be adding much to their utility, and prove interesting to many. The varied features of the beautiful Systems in operation are necessarily, from the nature of this Work, very briefly adverted to; and many important topics have not been touched upon for the same reason. The excellent works of robert alan, and thomas stevenson, will furnish the reader with a fund of varied information, and will supply all deficiencies in this, should a further insight be desired.
