A Kenyan Photo Safari is one mans attempt to record and share something of the excitement and experiences of spending nearly two weeks in Africa photographing wildlife and learning something of the culture and lives of the locals. The author spent more than 100 hours sitting in the back of a Toyota 4x4 truck simply observing and taking photographs of the wildlife in three separate camps within the Kenyan National Parks. This was the culmination of decades of dreaming about such a trip and two months planning it. Detailed photographs of all the wildlife you would hope to see sit alongside images of a Kenyan village school and some reflections on the distance still to travel for the youngsters there to win decent life opportunities and education. Definitely not a text book, this simply shares the journey in words and images and hopes to encourage others to do the same

Drama and beauty abound on the plains of Africa and in this superb collection of images, Australian photographers Kym and Tonya lllman present an intimate insight into Earth's greatest wilderness. This lavish book is the result of thousands of hours spent on safari in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa. The lllmans' innovative, and sometimes controversial, approach includes cameras buried at the edges of waterholes, mounted on aerial drones and on remote controlled buggies, with many lost to lions and elephants in the process. They have spent days concealed in photographic hides to capture low level shots and have chartered helicopters to photograph wildlife and vistas not accessible by land. Each photograph is accompanied by the fascinating story behind its capture. In a final section the lllmans discuss the various elements that ensure a successful safari, from both a sightseeing and photographic viewpoint. This splendid collection of photographs is an unforgettable record of Africa in all its untamed beauty and raw motion. From the brutality of the food chain to playful shots of animals at their most uninhibited, from majestic sunsets to brooding landscapes, there is no greater theatre than nature itself. This is Africa on Safari.

A New York Times bestseller, Safari is a magical journey for the whole family. Readers, as if on African safari, encounter eight wild animals that come alive using never-before-seen Photicular technology. Each full-color image is like a 3-D movie on the page, delivering a rich, fluid, immersive visual experience. The result is breathtaking. The cheetah bounds. The gazelle leaps. The African elephant snaps its ears. The gorilla munches the leaves off a branch. It’s mesmerizing, as visually immediate as a National Geographic or Animal Planet special. Accompanying the images is Safari, the guide: It begins with an evocative journal of a safari along the Mara River in Kenya and interweaves the history of safaris. Then for each animal there is a lively, informative essay and an at-a-glance list of important facts. It’s the romance of being on safari—and the thrill of seeing the animals in motion— in a book unlike any other.
