Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows: 1. The word "mine," in this chapter, shall mean any locality in which any vein, stratum, or natural bed, of coal, or of metaliferous ore, or rock, shall, or may, be worked. The verb "to mine," in this chapter, shall include any mode or method of working whatsoever, whereby the ore, earth, or soil, or any rock, may be disturbed, removed, washed, sifted, smelted, refined, crushed, or otherwise dealt with, for the purpose of obtaining Gold, Coal, Iron, Copper, or any other other ore, or metallic substance, and whether the same may have been previously disturbed, or not. 2. Gold bearing quartz shall be held to mean all auriferous rock in silu. 3. Gold elsewhere than in rock in situ, shall mean alluvial mines. 4.
