Five stories, five women, five legends. Phaedra, a Minoan princess, marries out of duty and to safeguard her precious home. She falls in love with Hippolytos, her husband’s son and asks the Goddess Aphrodite for help. He spurns her affections. The Trojan War, one of history’s greatest stories ever told. What if the legend as told is wrong? History is told by the victors, and facts changed to twist the truth. Is it possible Helen of Sparta never went to Troy? Hera, Queen of the Gods, is the most powerful goddess on Mount Olympos. For the first time ever in a candid interview, Hera shares what it’s like to be a goddess and wife to Zeus, the King of the Gods. Created by the gods as a gift to humanity, Pandora is the first woman on Earth. Did she know what Zeus intended when he presented an urn as a wedding dowry to her husband? Neither she nor Epimetheus knew what it contained, but they were told never to open it. All Medousa wanted was a life of love and acceptance but one fateful night it changed. While she’s alone in the Temple of Athene tending to the sacred fire, Poseidon pays a visit. No human can stop an immortal from taking what they want.

All myths skew the truth... Two thousand years ago, Eros met Psyche. Against terrible odds, romance bloomed, and their love became legend. Two thousand years later, they've yet to find their happy ending. When it looked like Aphrodite would lose her son, she placed a curse on Psyche. To break it, Psyche must make it through three tasks. If she doesn’t, she dies before her twenty-fourth birthday and is forced to reincarnate years later. In each lifetime, Eros finds Psyche, but he never keeps her for long. Fearful his love’s spirit will spend eternity without rest, Eros starts to lose hope. Just when he reaches his breaking point, he discovers that he can end the curse. But to beat his mother, the unthinkable must happen. Eros must become mortal. As he discovers this, a new cycle of his mother’s curse begins. This time not only does Eros have to deal with his waning godhood, but he must also compete with another for Psyche’s love. To make matters worse, Psyche can’t discover Eros’ identity before he’s mortal, or she’ll suffer a fate worse than Tartarus could devise. One way or another, in fourteen days, Aphrodite will lose. Can Eros hold onto his sanity while he does what no god has done before him? Can he keep Psyche safe while also stealing her heart? Will the lovers finally be together?

Voted one of the best poetry collections of 2019 by readers on Goodreads! Bestselling and Goodreads Choice Award winning poet Trista Mateer takes a magical approach to self-care with her new collection, Aphrodite Made Me Do It. In this empowering and feminist retelling, Mateer transforms the mythology of the goddess into 224 pages of modern poetry and full-color artwork. Broken into sections alternating between the perspective of The Poet and Aphrodite herself, the work within tackles the timeless topic of love--romantic, platonic, and self-love. The collection addresses issues like heartbreak, sexuality, womanhood, trauma, and the restorative power in taking control of your own lore, speaking your truths, and rewriting your origin story. If you let her, by the end of this book, Aphrodite will make you believe in the possibility of your own healing. "If you were only made to be beautiful, we wouldn't have put you down here in the dirt."Perfect for fans of Amanda Lovelace, Nikita Gill, Rupi Kaur, Elizabeth Acevedo, Rick Riordan, and Madeline Miller; or anyone interested in Greek myths, tarot, and Instagram poetry. This is the first book in the Myth & Magick series, which also includes Artemis Made Me Do It and Persephone Made Me Do It.

What was the greatest fault of Ayesha, She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed? Surely a vanity so colossal that, to take one out of many examples, it persuaded her that her mother died after looking upon her, fearing lest, should she live, she might give birth to another child who was less fair. At least, as her story shows, it was vanity, rather than love of the beauteous Greek, Kallikrates, that stained the hands of She with his innocent blood and, amongst other ills, brought upon her the fearful curse of deathlessness while still inhabiting a sphere where Death is lord of all. Had not Amenartas taunted her with the waning of her imperial beauty, eaten of the tooth of Time, never would she have disobeyed the command of her master, the Prophet Noot, and entered that Fire of Immortality which she was set to guard. Thus it seems that by denial she would have escaped the net of many woes in which, perchance, she is still entangled and of Ayesha, Daughter of Wisdom yet Folly’s Slave, there would have been no tale to tell and, from her parable of the eternal war of flesh and spirit there would have been no lesson to be learned. But Vanity—or was it Fate?—led her down another road..FROM THE BOOKS.
