The statement may seem harsh to some, however, when we review the parable of the talents distributed to the servants of a man in Matthew 25, that's what we see. The man distributed talents (a talent is worth about 6,000 denarii, or twenty years' wages for a laborer), to three individuals. Each man had a choice to invest, develop, and or work the talent according to his ability. This analogy says to me that all of them could do something with what they had.
