He was kind enough to give me a small portion of that substance, just discovered, in a glass tube, which I was the first to exhibit at one of the meetings of the Royal Society in London, handing it over to Doctor Wollaston, who had heard of the discovery, but had never seen the violet vapour emitted by the substance when slightly heated.
