Excerpt from Bibliotheca Buckinghamiensis: A List of Books Relating to the County of Buckingham Fos a list of the almost innumerable books describing the whole of Great Britain, or England, and therefore containing accounts, more or less extended, of this county, we may refer the reader to The Book of British Topography a classified Catalogue of the Topographical Works in the Library of the British Museum relating to Great Britain and Ireland, by John P. Anderson, London: 1881, In the same very useful work will be found the titles of most of the numerous and interesting books which may be described as miscellaneous Collections of British Topography, and which are, in many instances, profusely illustrated with engravings. Rich as the British Museum is in topography, it must be borne in mind that the collection is very far from being complete, many smaller libraries, even private ones, being wealthier in some departments than the national depository. In the compilation of the ensuing list it has only been found possible to insert a selection from the classes before named, but it is hoped that it will be found to comprise all the most important volumes. As regards Records, mss., and other sources of information, much may be gathered from An Essay on Topographical Literature, by the late John Britton, published in always remembering the fact that since this date the published materials for local history have been immensely increased, and that those still unpublished, Records and Wills especially, have been made very much more accessible to inquirers.
