In the second half of the twentieth century, the tourist industry becomes resort-oriented, the Hawaiian Renaissance evolves into the sovereignty movement, and astronomy and science become a significant part of the island's economic future. The Big Island is not only rich in history but in visual imagery recording its past, maintained in pubic, private, and family archives. From these collections, over 400 photographs and illustrations have been selected to narrate the Island's story and enable us to time-travel through the island's exciting past filled with colorful personages, dramatic events, and sweeping economic, cultural, and social change.
