Women have served as pastors in leading Wesleyan-Holiness churches such as the Church of God (Anderson, IN). However, some of these churches are now refusing to consider women for pastoral ministry. Nine leading women ministers of the Church of God examine the cultural reasons for this drift. They highlight the work of several women evangelists and pastors whose ministry proved that God blessed their work.

Is Christian ministry in a state of crisis today? What is the nature of the crisis? How does it relate to the imperatives and challenges of the proclamation of the Gospel today and the extension of the ministry of Jesus Christ himself? What constitutes faithful and obedient servanthood today? What are the new frontiers? Is there a radically new spirituality that can reshape and transform the lives of those called to minister in God's world in this age? These are some of the issues with which Kortright Davis attempts to wrestle in this scholarly yet pastoral conversation with the Church and the world. Serving With Power explores the power of God's Word and Spirit in an attempt to shape a new spirituality of Christian ministry in the new millennium.

We have been called by God for the salvation of our souls, in order to live a life surrendered in worship of God; but also to have a productive life in all aspects. The child of God has been rescued from the world, transformed by God, and enabled to serve Christ, his church, and others. The Christian must dedicate his entire life to service. Therefore, serving must be one of the most beautiful obligations that the believer can develop in this world. When the child of God serves the Lord and other people, he can find purpose in his life and live with a satisfaction that lasts forever. Many Christians are consumers and not reproducers, that is, they continually need to be carried and supported since they have not grown enough to support themselves. So, we must ask ourselves, why does this happen? Why are many people in the local church inactive? Why do many Christians not know what to do with their lives? This book has been written with the purpose of helping the child of God know why he is here on earth, and how he can live a productive life in Christ. The objective of this book is to prepare and train children of God who have recently been baptized and who want to serve God, but do not know how or where to do so. Additionally, it tries to fill the need of those pastors who have new people who want to serve God. Therefore, this book can serve as material for the preparation of male and female servants for the work of God. Finally, the child of God will learn that his calling will be realized by serving in a local Church ministry.

Professional ministers and their work as church leaders have dominated church and pastoral ministry studies. Lay ministry studies have been neglected. In the local church, lay ministries are often defined solely by their voluntary service in the local church, and even then are regarded as secondary to the work of the professional minister(s) leading the local church. This study proposes that the word "minister" should be applied to all believers and that professional ministers and their ministries should serve the larger group doing ministry: the laity. Lay ministry should not be understood only as that service done in the local church, but should be understood as a call received and obeyed by the laity to "do the work of ministry" in their work places and their neighborhoods, as well as their local churches. Following Amos Yong's theology of disability and the formation of the L'Arche communities found throughout the world, this God's Empowered People will show how the local church can welcome all in Christ's name into a community of the Spirit in which people are loved and respected for who they are. From such a welcoming, loving, and respectful community can come people of varying abilities who discover their special gifts of ministry, then take their gifts into the work world, market place, and neighborhoods to "do the work of ministry" in Christ's name. They will be able to go places and do things no professional minister could go or do, yet still need the professional minister to help prepare them to "do the work of ministry." Thus, professional and lay ministries are not competitive but complementary. In such a community of professional and lay ministries operating cooperatively, all have the opportunity to express wisely their gifts in their arenas of calling and influence.

ECPA Christian Book Award Finalist Your Battle against Porn Isn't about Porn. It's about Hope. Pornography may seem inescapable, but God can free us from its destructive power. The gospel replaces the dehumanizing lies of pornography with this surprising truth: God created us as royalty. How then can we reclaim our God-given identity to take a stand against—and ultimately starve—the predatory porn industry? In The Death of Porn, Ray Ortlund writes six personal letters, as from a father to his son. Ideal for individuals and small groups, it will give hope to men who have been misled by porn into devaluing themselves and others. Through Scripture and personal stories, Ortlund assures readers that God loves them the most tenderly in their moments of deepest shame. The Death of Porn inspires men to come together in new ways to fight the injustice of porn and build a world of nobility for every man and woman—for the sake of future generations.

The Calling from God shares an in-depth analysis of various callings to individuals to preach from a biblical standpoint. It comes in unique ways for each individual. So the exact nature of the calling from God is difficult, at best, to describe, for it does not lend itself to any private interpretation, especially to someone not privy to the calling. Within the text, the reader will learn about the struggles of various people with God and within themselves. All experiences are coercing, demanding, and cajoling for sure. However, the one called has to determine within oneself what Gods will is for him/herself. The Calling from God will serve as a guide to those seeking answers about their possible destiny. The book takes the approach that many are called, but only a few answer because of uncertainty. The book will help one decide what to do based on their life-changing experiences with the power of the Lord Jesus Christ. The ones called must make sure of their calling, for there is much to do since the harvest is great. This book shows in detail some of the preparation needed as one grows in service to the calling from God. All Christians are called by God the Father to be witnesses of his resurrection power by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. For sure, a call in any form lays a heavenly claim upon the one called. This book helps one understand the calling from God and will help one reach a sound decision based on their life and experiences in comparison to selected biblical callings. The Calling from God will serve a reference manual and a valuable source of information for anyone thinking about answering or has answered the call from God. The decision to serve is very personal, as you will learn from the book The Calling from God and many biblical examples. If you are struggling with the decision to serve or not to serve, this book is for you. You will know after reading The Calling from God if you are one of the few chosen to serve and trust Gods wisdom in leading you to point others to the uplifted Christ. Will you answer the call from God? The alternative is to wrestle with the Spirit, as conviction works slowly and agonizingly in the soul. This book is a must read.
