When my son informed me that he enlisted in the Marine Corps, I became an emotional wreck. Alan's letters really helped me to deal with the constant fear (of the unknown) and anxiety I was feeling while he was gone. His writing was very descriptive of what day-to-day life was like for him and the other recruits.
