Herein are 88 illustrated short stories for children with most of the stories suffixed by a moral. In this volume you will find stories like: The Innkeeper The Brook and the Waterwheel Crooked Horn and Old Brindle The Lark and the Whippoorwill The Weedy Farm The Learned Owl ….and many, many more. Even as long ago as 1888, Charles Foster believed that it is not new truths that we need, but the application of old ones to our daily life, which led to the title of this book. Even so, the stories are still fresh and engaging. Because they have 88 to choose from, you will find there will be at least a few stories each child falls in love with and goes back to time after time. To have compiled such a volume in the 1880’s is nothing short of amazing. That the stories are of such quality is testament to the efforts of Charles Foster and his publishing house. WE INVITE YOU to curl up in front of your hearth with the fire crackling and spitting. Then open this unique sliver of culture not seen in print for many a year; and immerse yourself in the tales and fables of America when it was still a young and growing country. ---------------------------- KEYWORDS/TAGS: fairy tales, folklore, myths, legends, children’s stories, children’s stories, bygone era, fairydom, fairy land, classic stories, children’s bedtime stories, fables, cultural, moral, Innkeeper, Brook, Waterwheel, Court-House Steeple, Crooked Horn, Old Brindle, Millers, Tenth, Lark, Whippoorwill, Gate, Gate Post, Weedy Farm, King, Content, Learned Owl, Horse, Grasshoppers, Bark, Lightship, Unhonored, Servant, Wings, Standpoints, Man, Menagerie, Two Outlooks, Job Nickel, Unused Loom, Crowing, Peter Crisp, Spectacles, Two Apple Trees, Spring in Woods, Distant View, Two Vines, Old Chestnut, Young Oak, Corn-cribs, Old Clock, New Home, Great Secret, House-Builder, Pigeons, Clock on Desk, Watch-Dog, Opened Eyes, Lantern People, Grand Relations, Fair, Foul Wear, Wreckage, Robin, Riddles, Emigrants Wagon, Big, Little Lanterns, Cat, Tiger, Charity, Day-Laborers, Artist’s Answer, Hemlock, Sugar-Maple, Bread, Beautiful, Harper, Unappreciated Gift, Worn-Out Team, Wise Farmer, Wayfarer, Birds Fears, Night-Watchman, Single, Double, Boastful Fly, Mended Boots, Cripple, his Staff, Search, Swallows, Windmill, Medicine-Man, Eagle, Wren, Two Saplings, Cog-Wheel, Plough, Mowing-Machine, Fat, Lean, Half Empty, Quite Full, Snake, Rich, Poor, Hawk, Chicken, Servant, Money, Future Greatness, Old Mans Watch, Teacher, Cloud Shadows, Penitent Transgressor, Dry Well, Fruit Tree, Deer, Homely, Handsome, Colt, Old Gray, King’s Almoner, Pansies, Bells, Jack, Jenny, Meeting, Winds,

Herein are classic folklore selections from a large collection made by A. J. Glinski in 1862. These fairy tales come from a far and distant past and may even date from primitive Aryan times. They represent the folklore current among the peasantry of the Eastern provinces of Poland, and also in those provinces formerly known as White Russia. In this 148 page volume, with 19 exquisite and beautiful colour plates by Cecile Walton, you will find the stories of: The Frog Princess, Princess Miranda And Prince Hero, The Eagles, The Whirlwind, The Good Ferryman And The Water Nymphs, The Princess Of The Brazen Mountain and The Bear In The Forest Hut. Poland is on the little known “Amber Road”, a trade route that extends from St Petersburg, on the Baltic Sea and goes South through Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria and Slovenia to Italy on the Mediterranean Sea. As such it is not surprising to find these six exquisite tales embedded in Polish folklore. In olden days not only were goods and amber traded but so were stories and tales. Fairy tales were originally told to teach the young the lessons of life. In olden times it was often necessary to teach that good people had to make a stand against evil, or else evil would rule. Sometimes this meant following a path that paralleled that of the forces of evil – and this had to be learned at a young age. In these tales the defeat of the evil protagonist is always guaranteed. Fairy tales continue to be popular and continue to be used to teach these lessons, for it would seem that the forces of evil have not yet learned from history that Good always wins! The Big Book of Fairy Tales holds true to the rule, that sometimes – the oldest fairy tales are the best! Here is a collection of some of the finest stories from around the globe, including classics from Arabian Nights such as ‘Aladdin’ and ‘Sinbad the Sailor’, Hans Christian Andersen’s best work with ‘The Ugly Ducking’, ‘Little Tin Soldier’ and ‘The Little Match girl’ as well as the archetypal tales from Charles Perrault including ‘Blue Beard’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘Puss in Boots.’ Other tales with less well known literary lineages, such as ‘Dick Whittington’ and ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ are also encompassed for the reader’s enjoyment. These stories in this Big Book of Fairy Tales are accompanied by a set of dazzling illustrations from a true master of the ‘Golden Age of Illustration’ – Charles Robinson (1870-1937). An active painter in his own right, and brother of the famous Thomas and William Heath Robinson, his illustrations still delight both young and old over a century later. Robinson started his illustrative career with 100 pen and ink drawings for A Child’s Garden of Verses (1895). The book was an instant hit, and from that point onwards, Robinson continued to illustrate fairy tales and children’s books – with his characteristic style of subtle line, combined with delicate watercolours. Pook Press celebrates the great ‘Golden Age of Illustration‘ in children’s literature – a period of unparalleled excellence in book illustration from the 1880s to the 1930s. Contained within this volume are the stories of East of the Sun and West of the Moon, Monica the Moon Child and The Swan Maidens – all classic children’s stories from yesteryear which, even today, children want to hear and read. Also included are two poems which relate to the moon - The Man in the Moon and Hey Diddle, Diddle – which can also be considered classic children’s rhymes. While the stories are entertaining and enjoyable to read, the numerous illustrations will fire children’s imaginations and take them into fairy land, where, of course, anything is possible. Nowhere has this “firing of the imagination” been made more apparent than in the entertainments industry with the advent of Green Screen-CGI technology which has enabled big children’s imaginations to run wild and bring all sorts of apparitions to life - especially in the fairy and folk tales genre where we have seen a wholesome revival of interest. The most thoughtful, progressive educators and parents have come to recognize the cultural value of folklore and fairy tales, fables and legends, not only as means of fostering and directing the power of the child's imagination, but as a basis for literary interpretation and appreciation throughout life not to mention increasing the literacy ability of children. So, find that comfy chair, have your child snuggle in and set fire to their imagination with this short collection of MOON STORIES for CHILDREN. 10% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to charities, =============== TAGS: Folklore, fairy tales, myths, legends, bedtime, children’s stories, fables, poems, poetry, moon, east of the sun, west of the moon, monica, moon child, swan maidens, man in the moon, diddle, rhymes, entertain, white bear, lassie, castle, north wind, east, south, west, fly, change, silver bell, brother, sister, moonship, balloon, prince, mother, father, kiss, thick wood, forest, old hag, bundle, princess, gold apple, long nose, winter, sleigh, craters, mountains, side of the moon, garden, babies, Gardeness, roses, gloom, face, nurse, hunter, clothes, marry, children, dress, king, queen, six sisters, dolphin, flew, seven Bends, seven Glens, Crystal Mountain, cow, jump, cat, fiddle, dish, spoon, ran away
