A summary of the natural history of the ground beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae; over 2400 taxa) from North America north of Mexico is presented. Under each taxon, the ecology, biology, dispersal power, collecting techniques, and selected references are given. The section on ecology comprises the following: altitudinal distribution, habitat, diel activity, and gregariousness. This monograph deals with a group of arboreal ground beetles which is recognized as Physoderina, a subtribe of Lebiini mainly distributes in Oriental Region, with a few species also occur in Africa. These beetles were known for their small and colorful appearance. The taxonomy at both generic and specific levels was quite confused. Therefore revision of the subtribe is very necessary. A total of ten genera are recognized and keyed in the present monograph, and several of them are redefined and redescribed. Generic delimitation in Physoderina is mainly presented by the internal sac sclerite of male aedeagus and secondary sexual characters. Species of eight genera are revised with the exception of African Dasiosoma ones. These species are described and illustrated, accompanied by 157 photographs. The 101 Mecyclothorax carabid beetle species of Tahiti, French Polynesia comprise a very diverse adaptive radiation. Given Tahiti?s surface area of only 1,045 km2, the island?s Mecyclothorax fauna represents the densest, most diverse radiation of species on Earth. Speciation of Tahitian Mecyclothorax has also occurred very rapidly, with closely-related species allopatrically distributed across geographic ranges defined by Tahiti?s incredibly complex geological topography. Such high levels of endemism are useful for conservation management, as continuing presence of these beetles in small areas of Tahitian forest can signify good health of the native biota in those areas. This taxonomic revision includes dichotomous keys and diagnostic photographs supporting identification of all 101 species, over one-quarter newly described in this publication. Each species treatment includes ecological and geographical information. The Cymindis (Pinacodera) limbata species group (Coleoptera, Car-abidae, Lebiini) is a precinctive New World taxon with ranges extended from portions of temperate southeastern Canada and the U.S.A. through the montane regions of Mexico, south to the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. The group is distinguishable from all other members of the subgenus Pinacodera by males possessing a distinctive sclerite (endophallic plate) at the apex of the endophallus. In the past, a lack of material and misunderstandings of range of variation within species have contributed to confusion about how many species there really are.This revision of the limbata species group includes a classification, a key to groups within the subgenus Pinacodera and species within the limbata group, descriptions of species, re-rankings and new synonymies. In total 10 taxa are treated, with 6 new synonyms proposed, 1 new combination introduced and 1 new species described: Cymindis (Pinacodera) rufostigma (type locality: Archbold Biological Station, Highlands County, Florida, U.S.A.). Each taxon is characterized in terms of structural features of adults, habitat, geographical distribution, and chorological affinities.
