Fans of Three Dark Crowns and Red Queen will devour book two in the #1 New York Times bestselling Burning Glass trilogy, about a teen empath and the secret dangers of her expanding power. Sonya and Anton may have brought about a revolution, but can they protect their homeland—and their love—with so many forces threatening to tear them apart? The empire has fallen, Valko faces trial, and Sonya is finally free from her fate as Sovereign Auraseer. But Sonya’s expanding abilities are just as unstable as the new government of Riaznin. Not only can she feel the emotions of others but, unlike most Auraseers, she’s learned to make others feel what she’s feeling as well. And with her relationship falling apart, Sonya isn’t immune to her power’s sinister temptations. Now, as Sonya fights to contain her own darkness, she senses a new evil lurking in the shadows of the palace. Someone from Sonya’s past has returned seeking revenge—and she won’t be satisfied until Sonya has suffered for her mistakes.

Focusing on the theory and techniques of digital design and manufacturing for turbine blade investment casting, this book systematically summarizes the advances in applications in this field. It describes advanced digital design theory and methods and provides practical technical references for investment casting die design and manufacturing. The theories, methods and cases presented here are largely derived from the author’s practical engineering experience and the research he and his team have carried out since the 1990s. It includes academic papers, technical reports and patent literature, and provides a valuable guide to engineers involved in the die-design process. Given its comprehensive coverage, the book makes a significant contribution to investment-casting die design and aero-engine blade manufacturing, while at the same time promoting the development of aero-engine manufacturing technologies

This thesis describes the development of a new technique to solve an important industrial inspection requirement for a high-value jet-engine component. The work – and the story told in the thesis – stretches all the way from the fundamentals of wave propagation in anisotropic material and ultrasonic array imaging through to device production and site trials. The book includes a description of a new method to determine crystallographic orientation from 2D ultrasonic array data. Another new method is described that enables volumetric images of an anisotropic material to be generated from 2D ultrasonic array data, based on measured crystallographic orientation. After extensive modeling, a suitable 2D array and deployment fixtures were manufactured and tested on in situ turbine blades in real engines. The final site trial indicated an order of magnitude improvement over the best existing technique in the detectability of a certain type of root cracking. The Development of a 2D Ultrasonic Array Inspection for Single Crystal Turbine Blades should be an inspiration for those starting out on doctoral degrees as it shows the complete development cycle from basic science to industrial usage.

Gas turbines play an extremely important role in fulfilling a variety of power needs and are mainly used for power generation and propulsion applications. The performance and efficiency of gas turbine engines are to a large extent dependent on turbine rotor inlet temperatures: typically, the hotter the better. In gas turbines, the combustion temperature and the fuel efficiency are limited by the heat transfer properties of the turbine blades. However, in pushing the limits of hot gas temperatures while preventing the melting of blade components in high-pressure turbines, the use of effective cooling technologies is critical. Increasing the turbine inlet temperature also increases heat transferred to the turbine blade, and it is possible that the operating temperature could reach far above permissible metal temperature. In such cases, insufficient cooling of turbine blades results in excessive thermal stress on the blades causing premature blade failure. This may bring hazards to the engine's safe operation. Gas Turbine Blade Cooling, edited by Dr. Chaitanya D. Ghodke, offers 10 handpicked SAE International's technical papers, which identify key aspects of turbine blade cooling and help readers understand how this process can improve the performance of turbine hardware.

The first moves in the battle for Tael have been made and the Savonel is once again whole. Now, innocents are being enslaved and powerful artifacts that could be used to devastating effect were being sought by the agents of the evil one. Men and women of strength, valor and conscience must place themselves willingly between the innocents and those agents. These must also remove those same artifacts from the hand of the evil master, Lord Banshee. Morgan DeVilleforte, a skilled mercenary of honor, is one of those adventurers determined to do whatever is necessary to defend the innocent. She and a group of diverse adventurers now chase evil across the face of Catlor to bring justice and vengeance. The great Lord Commander Dekion DeLough embarks on a mission of mercy with Lilith the Sorceress, a rogue daku bent on defending those who cannot defend themselves and bringing about an end to the enmity of her race to all others. She also seeks two powerful artifacts to keep them from the hands of evil. Other brave souls Mages, clerics, mercenaries and rangers join them down dangerous paths in order to free, protect and deliver those from forced captivity to the light of the sun of Tael. Catlorian II: Temples continues the exploits of men and women of valor bent on thwarting Lord Banshee in his one-minded pursuit of vengeance against an entire world.

The book is targeted at engineers, university lecturers, postgraduates, and final year undergraduate students involved in computational modelling and experimental and theoretical analysis of the high-temperature behavior of engineering structures. It will also be of interest to researchers developing the thermal strength theory as a branch of continuum mechanics. Thermal integrity is a multidisciplinary field combining the expertise of mechanical engineers, material scientists and applied mathematicians, each approaching the problem from their specific viewpoint. This monograph draws on the research of a broad scientific community including the author’s contribution. The scope of thermal strength analysis was considerably extended thanks to modern computers and the implementation of FEM codes. However, the author believes that some material models adopted in the advanced high-performance software, are not sufficiently justificated due to lack of easy-to-follow books on the theoretical and experimental aspects of thermal integrity. The author endeavors to provide a thorough yet sufficiently simple presentation of the underlying concepts, making the book compelling to a wide audience.
