"Age 6" is the tale of an Indiana boy just reaching his seventh birthday upon which he is escorted by an older family friend on a five-day, often mysterious, outing via steam locomotive. Would you like to be turned loose in a toy factory distributor showroom to play? Or, could you be left alone at the lunch table while German spies try to figure out how to nab you so you will not expose them to the authorities? What about being trapped and kidnapped from a men's room 500 miles from home? Is it just a small boy's imagination, or did these things really happen back in 1945? While events and happenings in this story are inspired by true incidents, any similarity to real persons places or things is purely coincidental. Are they just plain fun in the eyes of a little boy's active imagination at the close of World War Two? Also available in E-Book format. [NOTE: Foreign language words spoken by characters are printed in English and italicized for clarity.]

Focusing on two film traditions not normally studied together, Maria Pramaggiore examines more than two dozen Irish and African American films, including Do the Right Thing, In the Name of the Father, The Crying Game, Boyz N the Hood, The Snapper, and He Got Game, arguing that these films foreground practices of character identification that complicate essentialist notions of national and racial identity. The porous sense of self associated with moments of identification in these films offers a cinematic counterpart to W. E. B. Du Bois's potent concept of double consciousness, an epistemological standpoint derived from experiences of colonization, racialization, and cultural disruption. Characters in these films, Pramaggiore suggests, reject the national paradigm of insider and outsider in favor of diasporic both/and notions of self, thereby endorsing the postmodern concept of identity as performance.

The Jewish coming-of-age ceremony of bar mitzvah was first recorded in thirteenth-century France, where it took the form of a simple statement by the father that he was no longer responsible for his thirteen-year-old son. Today, bar mitzvah for boys and bat mitzvah for girls are more popular than at any time in history and are sometimes accompanied by lavish celebrations. How did bar mitzvah develop over the centuries from an obscure legal ritual into a core component of Judaism? How did it capture the imagination of even non-Jewish youth? Bar Mitzvah, A History is a comprehensive account of the ceremonies and celebrations for both boys and girls. A cultural anthropology informed by rabbinic knowledge, it explores the origins and development of the most important coming-of-age milestone in Judaism. Rabbi Michael Hilton has sought out every reference to bar mitzvah in the Bible, the Talmud, and numerous other Jewish texts spanning several centuries, extracting a fascinating miscellany of information, stories, and commentary.
