Plucked from every background, and led by an N.K.V.D. Major, the new recruits who boarded a train in Moscow on 16th October 1941 to go to war had much in common with millions of others across the world. What made the 586th Fighter Regiment, the 587th Heavy-bomber Regiment and the 588th Regiment of light night-bombers unique was their gender: the Soviet Union was creating the first all-female active combat units in modern history. Drawing on original interviews with surviving airwomen, Lyuba Vinogradova weaves together the untold stories of the female Soviet fighter pilots of the Second World War. From that first train journey to the last tragic disappearance, Vinogradova's panoramic account of these women's lives follows them from society balls to unmarked graves, from landmark victories to the horrors of Stalingrad. Battling not just fearsome Aces of the Luftwaffe but also patronising prejudice from their own leaders, women such as Lilya Litvyak and Ekaterina Budanova are brought to life by the diaries and recollections of those who knew them, and who watched them live, love, fight and die.

Robert Hamlin, a 19-year-old college student lacking self-confidence and motivation, returns home from college one weekend. After another long conversation with his mother about "it’s now time to pick a college major . . . ", Bob goes to sleep for the evening and his future is revealed to him by a series of dreams. While in college, two major events occur in Robert Hamlin’s life. First, he wins the Illinois lottery, co-winning a $12 million purse. His great luck financially permits him to create a successful political consulting firm and be elected to the U.S. Congress at the age of 25. Second, the U.S. Constitution is amended to prohibit discrimination in employment by one’s age. He later uses the amendment to run for the U.S. presidency----and gets elected at the age of 29. In his short political career and young age, he offers policy proposals with a strong sense of candor, not too often seen by elected officials in our democracy today. In doing so, he subsequently wins over the hearts of both men and women by working with people to realistically address the problems facing our country. Throughout the story, he addresses the disbelief young people have toward politics from repeated scandals of corruption, lying, and other "questionable" activities. Robert Hamlin lives his life in a manner to demonstrate how elected officials can help our nation’s citizens. He believes that, "Public officials have forgotten that they are elected and paid by us." He summarizes the need to move forward by saying, "Let the future begin." The first in an anticipated series of three stories, In My Dreams helps to inform Americans about the political process. More importantly, it tries to serve as a symbol of hope for a better future in our political system--by giving people an opportunity to "vote for a candidate, rather than against one."

In The Sum of Our Dreams, Louis P. Masur offers a sweeping yet compact history of America from its beginnings to the current moment. For general readers seeking an accessible, single-volume account, one that challenges but does not overwhelm, and which distills and connects the major events and figures in the country's past in a single narrative, here is that book. Evoking Barack Obama's belief that America remains the "sum of its dreams," Masur locates the origin of those dreams-of freedom, equality, and opportunity-and traces their progress chronologically, illuminating the nation's struggle over time to articulate and fulfill their promise. Moving from the Colonial Era, to the Revolutionary Period, the Early Republic, and through the Civil War, Masur turns his attention to Reconstruction, the Gilded Age, the Progressive Age, World War One, the Great Depression, World War Two, the Cold War, Civil Rights, Vietnam, and Watergate, and then laying out clearly and concisely what underlies the divisiveness that has characterized American civic life over the last forty years-and now more than ever. Above all, however, Masur lets the story of American tell itself. Inspired by James Baldwin's observation that "American history is longer, larger, more beautiful and more terrible than anything anyone has ever said about it," he expands our notion of that history while identifying its individual threads. The Sum of Our Dreams will be the new go-to single volume for anyone wanting a foundational understanding of the nation's past, and its present.

The book is to help readers to accurately understand the rich connotation of the Chinese Dream and to clarify the role of each Chinese in achieving the dreams at different stages and in different positions. It aims to provide readers with a better understanding of the contemporary China and its past, and the opportunities it offers, emphasizing the “China opportunity theory” rather than the “China threat theory”. The work systematically explores the historical and cultural development of the Chinese Dream, presenting it as a logical conclusion. The study and promotion of the Chinese Dream is not a political issue. The Chinese Dream encompasses various aspects, including culture, economy, science and technology, military, and politics. It is also a dream shared by people all over the world. It is not a means to sacrifice the interests of other countries, but a global dream that promotes openness, peaceful coexistence, mutual benefit, and win-win cooperation with all countries around the world. The realization of the Chinese Dream is examined from the perspectives of industrial economics, strategic studies, theories of enterprises, and organizational behavior. People from all walks of life in China have their own missions to fulfill their own dreams.
