This carefully crafted ebook: "ACRES OF DIAMONDS: Our Every-day Opportunities (Wisdom & Empowerment Series)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. The original inspiration for his most famous essay, "Acres of Diamonds", occurred in 1869 when Conwell was traveling in the Middle East. The central idea of the work is that one need not look elsewhere for opportunity, achievement, or fortune—the resources to achieve all good things are present in one's own community. This theme is developed by an introductory anecdote, credited by Conwell to an Arab guide, about a man who wanted to find diamonds so badly that he sold his property and went off in futile search for them. The new owner of his home discovered that a rich diamond mine was located right there on the property. Conwell elaborates on the theme through examples of success, genius, service, or other virtues involving ordinary Americans contemporary to his audience: "dig in your own backyard!". The book has been regarded as a classic of New Thought literature since the 1870s. Russell Conwell (1843-1925) was an American Baptist minister, orator, philanthropist, lawyer, and writer.

Inspired by memories of her beloved grandmother, photographer and author Alysia Burton Steele -- picture editor on a Pulitzer Prize-winning team -- combines heart-wrenching narrative with poignant photographs of more than 50 female church elders in the Mississippi Delta. These ordinary women lived extraordinary lives under the harshest conditions of the Jim Crow era and during the courageous changes of the Civil Rights Movement. With the help of local pastors, Steele recorded these living witnesses to history and folk ways, and shares the significance of being a Black woman -- child, daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother in Mississippi -- a Jewel of the Delta. From the stand Mrs. Tennie Self took for her marriage to be acknowledged in the phone book, to the life-threatening sacrifice required to vote for the first time, these 50 inspiring portraits are the faces of love and triumph that will teach readers faith and courage in difficult times.

The author will take us through the process of the Holy Spirit's work in a life that is hungry and thirsty for the hidden riches of the Father. We must yield to the Father's call to this diamond-kind of character, which brings the heat of His light into the deepest part of our nature. This absolute light of God will expose, sift, and analyze, even to the depth of our nature, and it will judge the thought and the intent of our heart. ". . .these pages are filled with words of anointing and power! The depth and knowledge of the Word coupled with pellucid analogies of the diamond-kind of character has sparked my desire to pursue this character in my everyday walk with the Lord and with those around me." Kalan Lowery "From the very first chapter of this book, I sensed God's presence. This book is filled with treasures of great worth and reading it was definitely a life changing experience." Tina Esqueff "In reading this book, I found that I could not put it down, and that it caused a deep introspection. The anointing on each page caused me to question the make-up of my own character. I believe that as you read this book, it will cause you to examine your life and your character." Rev. Wayne Priest "...Diamonds in a World of Glass will be a book in my library that I will read again and again. Rev. Adkins unveils hidden treasures, 'diamonds' from the Word of God for us to plainly see." Rev. Stacey Scaife

Throughout this book the author refers to 'Hubby'. Well, as a preface to her collection of devotional writings, the author has been kind enough to allow Hubby to write this short introduction! Putting aside the banter between husband and wife, it is important to acknowledge the circumstances that have brought this book into being.I have seen the author struggle with chronic illness over recent years, a fiery trial that has all but destroyed her physical health, and taken its toll on her mental health too. Throughout these difficult years, her faith in God has been severely tested, but it ultimately remains unshaken. Why does God allow 'one of His own' to suffer in this way? This devotional will not provide you with a definitive answer to the above question, but what you will find in my opinion is pure treasure; hence the title of this book. The author has been forced through ill-health to slow down and listen to God in a way that she was never able to do in the busy years. As a result, she is able to eloquently demonstrate that God abides with us in all seasons of life, and that some of the deepest truth is to be found in everyday mundane circumstances. I think everyone will be able to relate in some way to the real-life situations examined within this small volume. This is an easy read and suitable for young and old, for those with a deep faith and for those who wobble and stumble. The writing style is full of warmth, practicality and occasionally humorous; the author also always finds a way to encourage, provoke thought or offer a gentle challenge. The format of each chapter is the same; a short devotional text is followed by a Bible extract. It has been my privilege to suggest a music track to listen to for most of these, which hopefully compliments the theme and the text.I warmly commend this little book to you. It has been a most helpful aid to the Author's wellbeing; I sincerely hope reading and digesting the thoughts contained within the following pages help you too.(Taken from the Introduction to the book: A Glint of Diamonds')
