The temperature of the liquid is recorded by a thermometer placed in the beaker in such a manner as not to interfere with the stirring. When the temperature of the acid reaches - 5°c. The anisol (30 gms.) is slowly introduced from a separatory funnel drop by drop at such a rate that the temperature of the liquid in the beaker does not exceed 0°c. The stem of the separatory funnel should be drawn out to facilitate the introduction of the anisol in very small drops.
