From a USA Today–bestselling author: First in the mystery series filled with “pure southern lunacy of the best possible kind” (Laurien Berenson). They say you can’t get to Heaven without passing through the Eternal Rest Funeral Home. And no one gets into Eternal Rest without passing muster with Elvis—the basset hound who’s convinced he’s the reincarnation of the King of Rock ’n’ Roll. Brewing up a big ol’ pitcher of Mississippi mystery, Peggy Webb’s delightful new series is as intoxicating as the Delta breeze. Normally, Callie Valentine Jones spends her days fixing up the hairdos of the dead, but when the corpse of prominent local physician Dr. Leonard Laton goes missing, it’s bad for business. So Callie and her cousin Lovie (Eternal Rest’s resident wake caterer) have no choice but to go in hot pursuit of the recently embalmed, last seen bound for Vegas by way of downtown Tupelo. In Vegas, Callie and Lovie hit the jackpot when they find the dearly departed inside a freezer owned by his showgirl mistress, Bubble Malone. But their luck runs out when Bubble decides to join her man in the afterlife. With the poisonous Laton family tree providing plenty of rotten suspects, Callie, along with some help from her basset hound, Elvis, is determined to crack this case—and have a killer singing “Jailhouse Rock” in time for her next haircutting appointment . . .

But the moment Callie and her loyal good luck charm Elvis arrive, trouble greets them in the form of a skeleton too fresh to be ancient history and too dead to spell anything but homicide. The best 100 personal travel tales of travel-adventurer, Dr Michael Brein, the world's first and only travel psychologist. Through harrowing close calls and hilarious misadventures in some of the world's most exotic cultures, Michael Brein examines the in-depth psychological netherworld behind travel. No one has written a travel book heretofore about the psychology of travel quite like this one. This is the expanded (full) edition of the lite version Travel Tales of Michael Brein: My Top 10. Michael Brein is the worlds first and only travel psychologist, who has created a unique series on the psychology of travel as told through the travel tales of more than 1,600 world travelers and adventurers he has interviewed over the last 30 years. My Best 100, the second book in the series, is a collection of Michaels 130 own best personal travel tales, including close calls and great escapes as well as his zaniest and funniest travel experiences. Michael explores his travels, revealing a rare in-depth psychological look at what happens to you when you travel to exotic, strange cultures. My Best 100 promises to be one of the most unusual travel books you will ever read! It might alternately have been named Confessions of a Travel Psychologist or maybe even Tales of the Last Travel Psychologist, since no one has heretofore written about the psychological netherworld of travel as Michael has. When you read Michaels collection of his own travel stories you may wonder if all this could possibly happen to one world traveler. It certainly did! After reading some of his hair-raising and hilarious tales you may further wonder if Michael should have been allowed to travel abroad at all, and if, instead, he should have been locked up in a padded cell with the key being thrown away! You decide! This is the expanded (full) edition of the lite version Travel Tales of Michael Brein: My Top 10.

The paranormal researcher and author of Haunted Nevada presents “a macabre compilation of the eeriest haunts of Sin City” (Kalila K. Smith, author of New Orleans Ghosts, Voodoo, and Vampires). With its world-famous casinos and extravagant floor shows, Las Vegas is known as one of America’s liveliest cities. And true to its reputation, even the dead are especially active here. In Haunting Las Vegas, Janice Oberling offers a rare look beyond the neon glitz and into reports of ghostly sightings and lurid histories of The City that Never Sleeps. Spirits of all kinds haunt the halls and corridors of the Las Vegas Strip, including apparitions of its most famous residents. There are many tales of Elvis idling backstage at the Hilton and Liberace appearing at his favorite restaurant, Carluccio’s. The legendary mobster Bugsy Segal is known to make spectral appearances, as is Shoney, the Luxor Hotel’s once-celebrated show elephant.

Michael Brein’s Travel Tales Monthly Bookazine Issue No. 9 for March 2015 contains among the best travel stories from Michael’s huge collection of about 10,000 travel tales that he has gathered in interviews with nearly 1,750 world travelers and adventurers during his four decades of travel to more than 125 countries throughout the world. Why not laugh yourself silly with this collection of funny, hilarious, gut-wrenching, LOL (laugh out loud) travel humor. Oh yeah, we do our fair share of ridiculous, raucous, belly-achingly funny things when we travel. And, I ask you: is this NOT one of the most important goals of travel—to laugh ourselves stupid? Thank God, the funny happens more than the horrific; the ludicrous more than the lame—travel is never boring and never lacking in wonderful, memorable funny causes célèbre that stay with us for the rest of our lives. Whether falling through someone's roof on a horse in Afghanistan; whether getting soaked by taunting the ‘fountain gods’ on a lawn at a castle; whether being thrown out of a restaurant in Buenos Aires for dancing on the tops of tables; whether chilling your wine in a bidet, the funniest travel moments that make you laugh are a welcome counter to those rare horrible travel events that make you cry. And it is also these memorable stories that remain with us, isn’t it, after all is said and done, in our travels? Feel free to laugh out loud with these travel tales of humor presented here in this current issue of Travel Tales Monthly. For many people, life is all about getting laid, lauded or loaded, but for many of us, it is more about sampling the lives, the cultures, the oddities, the sights, the sounds, the foods, the drinks, and the humor of the peoples of other lands. For me, it is all of the above, but it is also about laughter. I like to laugh much of the time, and probably would ALL the time if I could. Laughing abroad is what makes travel especially memorable. Of course, we remember the times that we cry; but we do, indeed, also remember the times that we laugh. Introduction to Travel Tales of Humor: Funny Stories. Part 1 Travel Tales of Humor: Funny Stories is divided into two parts simply because there is so much material. Part 1 appears here in the current Travel Tales Monthly issue No. 9 Mar 2015 and serves as a general introduction to this subject matter. Part 2 The unabridged, expanded forthcoming ebook Travel Tales of Humor: Funny Stories, part of The Travel Psychologist Travel Tales Series, is a larger volume and includes both Parts 1 and 2. The travel stories in Part 1 consist mainly of the funniest personal travel tales of Michael Brein (me), the author. The travel stories in Part 2 are, largely, the funniest stories of world travelers and adventurers whom I’ve encountered and interviewed throughout my travels over the last four decades to 125 countries. Mostly, your travels will typically be exciting and interesting, but funny things can and do happen to you at almost any turn along the way. The freedom from the typical constraints of home that travel offers us allows us to act and behave in ways that are often atypical and different from how we normally behave at home. Thus, in travel, we can take a few more risks and chances and do a few more silly and funny things that we might not ordinarily do at home. With this expanded propensity for more silliness, of course, comes the opportunity for more funny times, more laughs, and more great memories. For me, I’ve found that I’ve reveled in acting out the ‘Fool’ or the ‘Clown’ in my travels, very often making people laugh at my own expense. It is all in good fun. I’m not typically like this at home but more so in my travels. I hope laughable events happen to you a lot. I sincerely hope that the funny travel tales of humor that appear in these pages make you laugh and give you a hint of what lies in store for you in your own travels.
