These etudes must be used along with the Suzuki Violin School to learn and master different positions. Dr. Suzuki recommends that first position etudes be started when the student is working on Volume 2. The student should always be careful that fingers are placed before the bow moves. Dr. Suzuki repeatedly says, "One, fingers -- two, bow -- three, start." Since this is the first time the student plays an etude, the teacher needs to explain its purpose.

The first volume of Hans Sitt's opus 32 etudes, arranged for viola by transposing each etude down a perfect fifth from the original. These etudes are ideal for beginning to intermediate level viola students, providing opportunities to hone both right and left hand technique while also developing a sense of musicality. These etudes are also excellent for violin students who are learning to play viola. Each etude is spread over two pages, avoiding the intimidating appearance of denser formats and giving the student and teacher plenty of space to make their own markings. This edition is presented without fingerings.
