Dungeons & Dragons. It’s the fantasy role-playing game first conceived over fifty years ago by the now-legendary company TSR ,which has enthralled millions of devoted gamers around the world for generations. It’s a test of skill, intelligence, audacity, and survival. But no D&D game ever played could compare to the stunning behind-the-scenes melee for power and dominance that was the true story of TSR. Slaying the Dragon chronicles the rise and fall of TSR (Tactical Studies Rules), how the brilliant and wild minds of the legendary Gary Gygax and his co-creator Dave Arneson gave birth to a game that would capture the imagination of outsiders and underdogs throughout the world. From its humble beginnings in the small town of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin to its emergence as a cultural phenomenon, TSR soon spawned an unlikely empire of games and geekdom—with Dungeons & Dragons leading the way—that was decades ahead of its time, inviting both hyper-devoted fans as well as hysteria surrounding the game’s supposed corrupting influence on America’s youth. TSR was in the news, in the money, and on top of the world. But success soon took its toll, with creative control and rivalries within the firm threatening the stability of TSR. Former allies grew apart personally and professionally, and the formerly fun, freewheeling firm founded by a band of misfits collapsed into a desperate struggle for survival. Despite attempts to grow in a changing market, setbacks and management decisions put TSR in a downward spiral in the 1990s which resulted in the company's death and then resurrection by the most unlikely of saviors. With author access to previously unreleased documents and insider stories, and interviews with former TSR employees and associates who witnessed the high-stakes machinations and maneuvering that would eventually seal the company’s fate, Slaying the Dragon is a fascinating, revealing tale of friends turned enemies, success and failure, and loyalty and betrayal that no roll of the die could predict... "Riggs has written a fascinating and dishy account of the business hits and whistling misses of a band of dreamers, writers, artists, and geeks... A must-read for fighters, magic-users, and even bards -- and everyone else, too." — Brad Ricca, Edgar-nominated author of Mrs. Sherlock Holmes and True Raiders"Far from a fluff piece on a beloved hobby, this book goes behind the GM's screen to take a hard-nosed look at the people and circumstances that first gave rise to D&D, then nearly killed it -- twice. Riggs takes you on a roller-coaster from boom to near bankruptcy, but never loses sight of the individuals involved, the good, the bad, and the geeky." — Marie Brennan, Hugo-Award nominated author of the Memoirs of Lady Trent series

A battle was brought to their doorstep of the Spires, and now they must travel to the Kingdom of Kraken Purge, not only to seek revenge, but to rescue Hu'gan, their Mage and battle trainer. Kraken Purge detests dragons and any who are affiliated with them and will kill any who share a love of the sky beasts. Prepare as they may, it will not help them. The Spires of Dasny will not fight alone. They bring with them the immortal dragon of story and song, Zelspar, the Dragon of Evermore, the dragon from the world's beginning. He will bring with him his legions of dragons who now reside in a haven prepared for them on the floating island of Avalon, in a dimension only accessible by portals. What they find is that the hatred of dragons has grown and spread like wildfire. Can they extinguish the flame before it's too late? All through the castle grounds, gasps rang out at the sudden darkening of their sky. While the Spires of Dasny had its Dragon School and over a thousand dragons strong, it was but a pittance of what now stood outside the castle gates. Grifton raced to reach Athan and join the dragons paying homage to Zelspar, not only because he came to give them aid in battle, but that he deemed them worthy of his extensive knowledge and battle skills. As he climbed onto Athan's back, memories flooded him of the great and mighty Zelspar. He had been in this world since its beginning with the ancient names of Starleira, Rynik, Galdean and Kaida, the girl who was the first dragon rider, having been raised by the dragons. It was during this ancient time in their world that Zelspar fought the immortal Dargenoin, who sought to change the world to evil. Through an outstanding feat Zelspar was able to encase Dargenoin into a dragon's tear and hide him where none would ever find him again. Grifton's heart beat hard against his bones in knowing the greatest of all dragons now stood outside their castle gates. In a commanding voice, the great one spoke. "I've come and brought with me my legions. We heard of your battle." His yellow eyes narrowed as he spoke to all gathered. "Dragons once ruled this world and by all that is dragon, we will not stand for the savage acts of those knights who came to kill every dragon they saw!" Roars met with his words and flames shot above the dragons as each echoed his sentiment. People gathered upon the battlements between the knights to look upon the gathering below them with awe and curiosity. Students from the Dragon School pooled in each opening of the Spires to look upon the one they had only heard of in their studies. The air was charged full of an electrical current where gooseflesh rippled from person to person.

King Arthur and the Battle for Britannia is the last in a series of three books. The first, King Arthur: Man or Myth, weighed the evidence for and against a historical figure. The second, The Battles of King Arthur, looked in detail at the famous battle list from the Historia Brittonum. Having looked at the questions of whether and where, this final book takes on the different question of who was Arthur? The book is intended to save readers time and money wading through the scores of competing theories. It explains the problems with many of these theories to date, their failure to gain widespread support and why many historians remain sceptical about the existence of a historical Arthur. There is however a reasonable consistency in medieval genealogies and a good reason why Arthur does not appear in any of the list of kings of early kingdoms. Instead he is placed in the context of a fragmenting post-Roman provincial structure, alongside the emergence of petty kingdoms with new cultural identities. A heroic Brythonic culture in the west and north and a Germanic culture in the east and south. The book looks at the evolution of the legend comparing the chivalric French Romances with the Arthur of the darker Welsh tradition. A mythical figure may have emerged from the mead halls and war band culture of the sixth century. However the book describes how a historical figure may have been mythologised and who such a warrior may have been.
