In numbering the books the usual class designation is dispensed with, as the peculiarity of the labels suffciently marks the class, and instead of it there is placed on the label of each book a capital letter which is the initial of the author's surname. Thus the letter A is placed on all the books whose author's names begin with that letter, and they are placed on the shelves together; and so of each of the other letters.
