The Economics of Sustainable Food details the true cost of food for people and the planet. It illustrates how to transform our broken system, alleviating its severe financial and human burden. The key is smart macroeconomic policy that moves us toward methods that protect the environment like regenerative land and sea farming, low-impact urban farming, and alternative protein farming, and toward healthy diets. The book's multidisciplinary team of authors lay out detailed fiscal and trade policies, as well as structural reforms, to achieve those goals. Chapters discuss strategies to make food production sustainable, nutritious, and fair, ranging from taxes and spending to education, labor market, health care, and pension reforms, alongside regulation in cases where market incentives are unlikely to work or to work fast enough. The authors carefully consider the different needs of more and less advanced economies, balancing economic development and sustainability goals. Case studies showcase successful strategies from around the world, such as taxing foods with a high carbon footprint, financing ecosystems mapping and conservation to meet scientific targets for healthy biomes permanency, subsidizing sustainable land and sea farming, reforming health systems to move away from sick care to preventive, nutrition-based care, and providing schools with matching funds to purchase local organic produce.--Amazon.

Drawing on his decades of experience as a restaurateur, David Scott Peters offers this specific, hands-on guidebook for independent restaurant owners. Focusing on the operational and cultural aspects of running a restaurant, Peters offers a system--the Restaurant Prosperity Formula(TM)--that allows these businesses to not only survive but thrive in one of the world's most competitive industries. In this book (which the author calls "the most comprehensive restaurant owner manual you've ever read"), restaurant owners will learn the fundamentals needed to accomplish three goals: simplifying operations, making more money than ever before, and bringing balance back to their lives so they can enjoy the benefits of the first two goals! "David's no-nonsense approach strips down all the excuses and doubts in our heads as operators and then gives you the paint-by-numbers plan to make real change in your restaurant. The systems that are outlined in this book are both relevant and practical on their own, but David takes it a step further by teaching you how to implement them in your business and whom you need on your team to be successful." - Brad Hackert, director of restaurant operations, Flora-Bama "Foundation, systems, profitability, accountability, and actionable steps--this book has it all from a true industry expert!" - Darren S. Denington, CFBE, president, Service with Style "Think of this book as your personal, one-of-a-kind treasure map with a clearly marked path and a big X where the gold is. Bring your shovel because you'll be doing some digging." - Kamron Karington, founder and CEO, Repeat Returns

In an unprecedented way, this book relates fundamental physical and ecological principles to economics so that the detachment of current economic practices from physical reality becomes obvious. Sustainable alternative models are proposed. Almost all the material is derived from the work of great minds of past and present. Forgotten and ignored ideas are resurrected. Its a book for intelligent, educated lay people, students and academics. That his forecasting is more successful than many prominent economists, and that respected figures are turning to views long held by him, gives the author confidence that his contribution is of value.

This open access book examines the interactions between India’s economic development, agricultural production, and nutrition through the lens of a “Food Systems Approach (FSA).” The Indian growth story is a paradoxical one. Despite economic progress over the past two decades, regional inequality, food insecurity and malnutrition problems persist. Simultaneously, recent trends in obesity along with micro-nutrient deficiency portend to a future public health crisis. This book explores various challenges and opportunities to achieve a nutrition-secure future through diversified production systems, improved health and hygiene environment and greater individual capability to access a balanced diet contributing to an increase in overall productivity. The authors bring together the latest data and scientific evidence from the country to map out the current state of food systems and nutrition outcomes. They place India within the context of other developing country experiences and highlight India’s status as an outlier in terms of the persistence of high levels of stunting while following global trends in obesity. This book discusses the policy and institutional interventions needed for promoting a nutrition-sensitive food system and the multi-sectoral strategies needed for simultaneously addressing the triple burden of malnutrition in India.

Like many developing nations, the Philippines has been relying on western standards as handed down by American colonialists and perpetuated by the Filipino elite. The heavy focus of this western approach on economic indicators of progress is suited to the elite's interests, since it controls commerce and industries. This book presents the "e;ANT3 Paradigm,"e; a new development paradigm that is more appropriate for developing nations because it is cognizant of the importance of the cultural and spiritual values of the people alongside their economic aspirations. "e;ANT3"e; stands for information technology Applications, social Networking, appropriate Technology, modern but affordable Telecommunications systems, and Training.
