Although the standards in electronic health records and general healthcare services continue to evolve, many organizations push to connect interoperability with public service and basic citizenship rights. This poses significant technical and organizational challenges that are the focus of many research and standardization efforts. Interoperability in Healthcare Information Systems: Standards, Management and Technology provides a comprehensive collection on the overview of electronic health records and health services interoperability and the different aspects representing its outlook in a framework that is useful for practitioners, researchers, and decision-makers.

Medical images generated by radiological procedures typically result in the generation of film-based images. In 1986, the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command contracted with the MITRE Corporation to investigate the use of filmless radiology in both its fixed facility and battlefield medical systems. To support this evaluation, commercially available Digital Imaging Network System (DINS) equipment was competitively procured and installed at two university medical centers, which competed for the opportunity to participate in this evaluation. Equipment provided by AT & T was installed at Georgetown University and equipment provided by Philips Medical Systems was installed at the University of Washington. In parallel, a prototype battlefield DINS was developed by MITRE, using commercially available workstation technology, to support concept exploration of DINS in the battlefield environment. This document summarizes and presents the results of the systems engineering studies and technical evaluations that were conducted as part of this four-year study. Keywords: Radiological information management; Digital data communications; Digital images; Filmless radiology; Picture Archiving & Communication Systems(PACS); Medical imaging.

DRAFT NIST SP 1800-24 Securing Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) The National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence at the National Institute of Standards and Technology built a laboratory to emulate a medical imaging environment, performed a risk assessment, and identified controls from the NIST Cybersecurity Framework to secure the medical imaging ecosystem. This project used Picture Archiving Communications Systems (PACS) and a Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA), and implemented controls to safeguard medical images from cybersecurity threats. PACS and VNA comprise the systems to centrally manage medical imaging data. Why buy a book you can download for free? We print the paperback book so you don't have to. First you gotta find a good clean (legible) copy and make sure it's the latest version (not always easy). Some documents found on the web are missing some pages or the image quality is so poor, they are difficult to read. If you find a good copy, you could print it using a network printer you share with 100 other people (typically its either out of paper or toner). If it's just a 10-page document, no problem, but if it's 250-pages, you will need to punch 3 holes in all those pages and put it in a 3-ring binder. Takes at least an hour. It's much more cost-effective to just order the bound paperback from Amazon.com This book includes original commentary which is copyright material. Note that government documents are in the public domain. We print these paperbacks as a service so you don't have to. The books are compact, tightly-bound paperback, full-size (8 1/2 by 11 inches), with large text and glossy covers. 4th Watch Publishing Co. is a HUBZONE SDVOSB. https: //usgovpub.com

This is the second edition of a well-received book that enriches the understanding of radiographers and radiologic technologists across the globe, and is designed to meet the needs of courses (units) on radiographic imaging equipment, procedures, production, and exposure. The book also serves as a supplement for courses that address digital imaging techniques, such as radiologic physics, radiographic equipment and quality control. In a broader sense, the purpose of the book is to meet readers’ needs in connection with the change from film-based imaging to film-less or digital imaging; today, all radiographic imaging worldwide is based on digital imaging technologies. The book covers a wide range of topics to address the needs of members of various professional radiologic technology associations, such as the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists, the College of Radiographers in the UK, and the Australian and New Zealand Societies for Radiographers.

Developments in teleradiology are progressing at great speed. As a consequence, there is a need for a broad overview of the field. This first-ever book on teleradiology is presented in such a way that it should make it accessible to anyone, independent of their knowledge of technology. The text is designed to be used by all professionals, including radiologists, surgeons, nurses and allied health professionals, and computer scientists. In a very short time, driven by technical developments, the field of teleradiology has become too extensive to be covered by only a small number of experts. Therefore, Teleradiology has been written with chapter contributions from a host of renowned international authorities in teleradiology (see the Contents and the Contributors). This ensures that the subject matter focusing on recent advances in teleradiology is truly up to date. Our guiding hope during this task was that as editors of multiple chapters we could still write with a single voice and keep the content coherent and simple. We hope that the clarity of this book makes up for any limitations in its comp- hensiveness.

Getting the right diagnosis is a key aspect of health care - it provides an explanation of a patient's health problem and informs subsequent health care decisions. The diagnostic process is a complex, collaborative activity that involves clinical reasoning and information gathering to determine a patient's health problem. According to Improving Diagnosis in Health Care, diagnostic errors-inaccurate or delayed diagnoses-persist throughout all settings of care and continue to harm an unacceptable number of patients. It is likely that most people will experience at least one diagnostic error in their lifetime, sometimes with devastating consequences. Diagnostic errors may cause harm to patients by preventing or delaying appropriate treatment, providing unnecessary or harmful treatment, or resulting in psychological or financial repercussions. The committee concluded that improving the diagnostic process is not only possible, but also represents a moral, professional, and public health imperative. Improving Diagnosis in Health Care, a continuation of the landmark Institute of Medicine reports To Err Is Human (2000) and Crossing the Quality Chasm (2001), finds that diagnosis-and, in particular, the occurrence of diagnostic errorsâ€"has been largely unappreciated in efforts to improve the quality and safety of health care. Without a dedicated focus on improving diagnosis, diagnostic errors will likely worsen as the delivery of health care and the diagnostic process continue to increase in complexity. Just as the diagnostic process is a collaborative activity, improving diagnosis will require collaboration and a widespread commitment to change among health care professionals, health care organizations, patients and their families, researchers, and policy makers. The recommendations of Improving Diagnosis in Health Care contribute to the growing momentum for change in this crucial area of health care quality and safety.
