Graceland's Table is the first cookbook written with the full cooperation of Elvis Presley Enterprises. In addition to recipes from fans for Elvis, the book includes photographs of Elvis at home and full-color food photos taken in Graceland for the book. The 175 recipes in Graceland's Table come from two sources: EPE's archives of Elvis's favorite recipes and Elvis's fans. The recipes from the fans were solicited through EPE's electronic newsletter, its catalog, and the more than 400 fan clubs. Fans submitted a recipe they would have liked to cook for Elvis should they have been invited to Graceland for a meal and explained the reason for their choice. Fans were asked to submit recipes linked to a particular song or movie title or person in Elvis's life (e.g. Love Me Chicken Tenders, Colonel Parkerhouse Rolls, Blue Suede Berry Pie). Twelve recipes came from EPE and over 150 from the fans. The book also has 35 B&W photos of Elvis and Graceland and 20 full-color food photos, trivia, and stories by those who knew Elvis such as Joe Esposito, Elvis's road manager, Patty Perry, the only female member of the Memphis Mafia, and Marian Cocke, Elvis's nurse.

Graceland is a dazzling debut by a singular new talent The sprawling, swampy, cacophonous city of Lagos, Nigeria, provides the backdrop to the story of Elvis, a teenage Elvis impersonator hoping to make his way out of the ghetto. Broke, beset by floods, and beatings by his alcoholic father, and with no job opportunities in sight, Elvis is tempted by a life of crime. Thus begins his odyssey into the dangerous underworld of Lagos, guided by his friend Redemption and accompanied by a restless hybrid of voices including The King of Beggars, Sunday, Innocent and Comfort. Ultimately, young Elvis, drenched in reggae and jazz, and besotted with American film heroes and images, must find his way to a GraceLand of his own. Nuanced, lyrical, and pitch perfect, Abani has created a remarkable story of a son and his father, and an examination of postcolonial Nigeria where the trappings of American culture reign supreme. "A richly detailed, poignant, and utterly fascinating look into another culture and how it is cross-pollinated by our own. It brings to mind the work of Ha Jin in its power and revelation of the new."--T. Coraghessan Boyle

A very different view of the world of Elvis Presley is presented in these comic fictional stories. His manager, Colonel Parker, his family and the Memphis Mafia all feature in episodes such as the siege of Graceland when the military police try to arrest Elvis. Fans of the King of Rock and Roll will learn of Liberace's hair-raising encounter with Elvis's pet chimpanzee, screen legend Greta Garbo coming out of retirement to make a film musical, and the invitation from HM The Queen to Elvis to attend the Royal Highland Games. Some stories are based on real events, such as the Million Dollar Quartet and being drafted into the army, but here they are given a comic twist. They are written by a lifelong fan who asks: Who'd have thought Elvis and life at Graceland could be so funny.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with sequins and a beehive wig in this sharply funny and achingly tender debut novel about mothers, daughters, and the surprising power of Elvis. Grace Johnson can’t escape the feeling that her life is on autopilot—until her husband announces he’s done with their marriage. Grace has a choice: wallow in humiliation . . . or reluctantly grant her outlandish mother’s seventieth birthday wish with a road trip Graceland. Buckle up, Elvis. We’re on our way. Now the two are hightailing it from El Paso to Memphis, leaving a trail of sequins, false eyelashes, and difficult memories in their wake. Between spontaneous roadside stops to psychics, wig mishaps, and familiar passive-aggressive zingers, Grace is starting to better understand her Elvis-obsessed mama and their own fragile connection. She may even have another shot at love. Apparently the King really does work in mysterious ways. But after all these years, will it ever be possible for Grace and her mom to heal the hurts of the past?

Graceland is much more than a wildly popular historic house and tourist destination associated with a famous entertainer, and Elvis Presley is much more than the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. As former Walters Art Museum director and medievalist Gary Vikan shows us in his fascinating new book, Graceland, the second-most visited historic house in the U.S., is a locus sanctus —a holy place—and Elvis is its resident saint, while the hordes of fans that crowd Elvis Presley Boulevard in Memphis are modern-day pilgrims, connected in spirit and practice to their early Christian counterparts, sharing a fascination for icons and iconography, relics, souvenirs, votives, and even a belief in miracles. Vikan reveals the emergence of contemporary holy places—Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan, the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, the Grassy Knoll in Dallas, Place de l’Alma in Paris—and shows us that the saints of our day are our “martyred” secular charismatics, from Elvis to John F. Kennedy, Princess Diana, Michael Jackson, and others.

“In this luminous collection” a New York Times columnist “delivers smart, beautifully crafted personal and political observations” on the American south (Minneapolis Star Tribune). Margaret Renkl’s New York Times columns offer readersa weekly dose of natural beauty, human decency, and persistent hope from her home in Nashville. Now more than sixty of those pieces have been brought together in this sparkling collection. “People have often asked me how it feels to be the ‘voice of the South,’” writes Renkl in her introduction. “But I’m not the voice of the South, and no one else is, either.” There are many Souths—red and blue, rural and urban, mountain and coast, Black and white and brown—and no one writer could possibly represent all of them. In Graceland, At Last, Renkl writes instead from her own experience about the complexities of her homeland. In a patchwork quilt of essays, Renkl also highlights other voices of the South. Teenagers who organized a youth march for Black Lives Matter. An urban shepherd whose sheep remove invasive vegetation. Church parishioners sheltering the homeless. Throughout, readers will find a generosity of spirit and deep attention to the world, human and nonhuman. From a writer who “makes one of all the world’s beings” (NPR), Graceland, At Last is a book for Southerners and non-Southerners alike. “E.B. White suggested that newspapers cover nature as eagerly as commerce. . . . Renkl . . . seems like a belated answer to White . . . [crafting] graceful sentences that White would surely have enjoyed.” —Wall Street Journal “Margaret Renkl’s perspective feels like a guiding light . . . No matter where you’re from, column after column, Renkl will make you feel right at home.” ?Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
