A guide to starting university is an easy to read and practical book for students making the exciting leap towards university and adulthood. This book will help students prepare for for their upcoming year, by showing them many helpful and vital tips and tricks based on my own, and friends experiences, that we wish we had known before starting uni. The book is divided into six sections: What to bring before you go - this contains many slightly obscurer items that many students will forget, but almost every student will wish they had them right from the start. Social life - this will show you how to maximise your social experience at university, ranging from societies and sports teams, to different pre drinking games and chants. This section will also teach you many different fancy dress themes, and show you how tie make and tie your own toga. In order to lessen the pain of those unnavoidable headaches the day after, there is also a chapter on how to reduce hangovers, and also how to balance your social life with your studies. Food tips - this will give you little tips and tricks on how to save time cooking such as meal sharing, or cooking in bulk. This section also has five easy to learn recipes (vegetarian and non vegetarian options) that every student should master while in their first year. Household hacks - using a washing machine and keeping your room tidy may seem like two east tasks, but from past experience, it is amazing how many students find these two aspects of uni life particularly hard. This section will show you how to master both of these tasks, and also how often to wash bedsheets and towels, and the difference between halls and a house. Money hacks - how much they're likely to have (or how little), where it goes, and most importantly how to make more of it. It also shows how to budget, and what apps and cards can be used to get discounts. Lecture hacks - this section will tell you the difference between lectures, tutorials and seminars (and what they actually are), and how best to take notes. It will also tell you all about the dreaded library and how best to use it. It is a perfect gift for anyone preparing for university, and will certainly save you time and money, and make your uni experience much more enjoyable!

Ask any member of the uni academic staff and they'll tell you that going to uni is all about working really hard and throwing yourself into your studies with more vigour and enthusiasm than a Viking raiding party on big hat day. That said, there is another side altogether. Life, University And Everything In Between is specifically written for students about to take the plunge into uni life who are both a little anxious and also curious as to what lies beyond the regular generic advice concerning budgeting skills and how to keep your room tidy. What Life, University And Everything In Between offers is an in depth, humorous, real life, warts 'n all guide to many of the things you will encounter in your first year at uni, including fresher's week, accommodation, finances, alcohol, drugs, sex, studying, health, etc. plus some common sense advice and life-hacks from a seasoned pro who has graduated successfully with two honours degrees from different universities. This is not one of the generic survival manuals to uni life. Believe it or not, whilst going to uni can be a bit anxiety provoking, you are not actually being air dropped behind enemy lines. If you need to know how to effectively budget for the week on exactly £5.53 or bake a cake from freeze dried pasta and last week's dogs dinner, well there are books for all that. However, in the interests of a little bit of reality orientation for a moment, a guide that's composed in the context of real life university experiences, joys, laughs and tears might bring with it some valuable insight and a human perspective to the adventure you are undertaking. It can be a bit daunting, and quietly admitting it to yourself does not make you a lily livered, paranoid, apron string holding kindergartener. Life, University And Everything In Between is in many ways designed to promote confidence in your own ability to walk into the next few years with your head up and eyes open.

It's a simple, easy to read and entertaining guide. It takes you through the University life of a recent graduate. Filled with anecdotes and advice from their experiences. There is a section explaining lessons for life the student gained from university. Examples include 'make failure your friend' and how to use university as a 'CV builder.' Giving you real life, relatable and practical advice based on personal experience. Another section gives you some early advice for the infamous final project (dissertation). To help form an understanding of what it's like, the original dissertation is included for the readers to go through. This dissertation also includes full length interviews from students discussing their work-play balance, and their own thoughts and feelings towards this balancing act.The book finishes with a 'words of wisdom' section from recent graduates spread across different universities and courses. They tell you the realistic advice they wish someone told them. Insightful, entertaining and written to give you a 'heads up' on the university life. A MUST READ FOR ANYONE HEADING TO UNIVERSITY!
