Revered Dada J. P. Vaswani, the illustrious spiritual leader and head of the Sadhu Vaswani Mission, was a saint, who carried forward the glorious message of India's rishis and seers. An epitome of love and compassion, forgiveness and selfless service, Dada upheld the teachings of the holy scriptures and guided his followers through the challenges of modern life. During the hundred years of his earthly life, he shared his wisdom and insights with everyone who sought his guidance. Under his direction, the Sadhu Vaswani Mission stood up for causes such as women's empowerment, education, vegetarianism and animal rights on a global level. The book, A Messenger of Love, is an authorized, loving and intimate account of his life written by two of his closest followers to commemorate his first Mahayagna, on the completion of a year from 12 July 2018, when his soul merged in the Divine Ocean. As one reads through this biography, and the many wonderful incidents that shaped his spiritual journey, one is able to experience the magic of his love.

In 1965, Swami Shivom Tirth spent some time with his spiritual master Swami Vishnu Tirth Maharaj (Maharajshri) in Jagannathpuri. During the twenty days in Jagannathpuri, he enjoyed meditation and spiritual conversations with Maharajshri to his heart?s content. As such Maharajshri usually stayed in the divine state, but since there was no one here to disrupt this state, Maharajshri was constantly in a meditative state. Even while conversing, his state of divinity was maintained. This book is a compilation of Maharajshri?s experiences regarding Swami Gangadhar Tirth Maharaj and Kalikishore (Swami Narayan Tirth Dev Maharaj, Baba), which he discussed with the author in Jagannathpuri. Whatever Maharajshri experienced, he narrated it to the author verbatim. There was no mental interference by Maharajshri in these experiences. It was like someone watching the television and narrating it to you. Maharajshri?s inner-eyes were awake and active, hence everything was visible to him.

Shakti’s New Voice is the first comprehensive study of Anandmurti Gurumaa, a widely popular contemporary female guru from north India known for offering spiritual teachings and music on satellite television and the Internet. Based on extensive ethnographic fieldwork and religious-historical research—as well as unexpected and unprecedented outsider contact with the guru—Angela Rudertoffers an intimate portrait of “Gurumaa” that will be of interest to the guru’s admirers as well as to scholars. To examine Gurumaa’s innovation, Rudert turns to examples drawn from fieldwork research in the guru’s ashram and from other locations in India and in the United States. These examples specifically discuss Gurumaa’s religious pluralism, her gender activism, and her embrace of new media, in order to illuminate elements of continuity and change within the time-honored South Asian tradition of guru-bhakti, devotion to the guru. Raised in a Sikh family, educated in a Catholic convent school and understood to have attained her enlightenment in Vrindavan, the famous Hindu pilgrimage site of Lord Krishna’s divine play, Gurumaa refuses identification with any particular religious tradition, or “ism,” yet her teachings draw from many. She speaks strongly, often harshly, about contemporary issues of gender inequality, while calling for women’s empowerment, and she has established a non-governmental organization called Shakti to promote girls’ education in India. In the case of Anandmurti Gurumaa and those spiritual seekers in her fold, innovations and re-interpretations of tradition come from within the pluralistic setting of Indian religiosity, while they exist and act within a global religious milieu.
