Olivia’s family is still sifting through ruins in the years after her father’s death. As they begin to accept their ‘new normal,’ mysterious and tragic events invade their lives. With her mother and brother, she must draw on her father’s strength to survive. It’s her senior year of high school, and Olivia has big dreams of making it into an Ivy League university. She’s worked hard to make it happen—saved every penny, nosed every book, submitted early applications. Her solid plan for the future is turned upside down with the appearance of Nathan, her gentle and sensitive neighbor. As Olivia opens her heart to love, a strange and brutal accident puts her brother, Will, in a coma. Nathan is connected—but is he a savior, or an assailant? Olivia must decide which path to take. Her brother and mother desperately need her, and the truth of the accident must be revealed. Nathan is in chains but continues to plead his innocence. Olivia dives down the rabbit hole, trusting herself, and the power of family, to find the truth.

Phenomenology and existentialism transformed understanding and experience of the Twentieth Century to their core. They had strikingly different inspirations and yet the two waves of thought became merged as both movements flourished. The present collection of research devoted to these movements and their unfolding interaction is now especially revealing. The studies in this first volume to be followed by two succeeding ones, range from the predecessors of existentialism – Kierkegaard/Jean Wahl, Nietzsche, to the work of its adherents – Shestov, Berdyaev, Unamuno, Blondel, Blumenberg, Heidegger and Mamardashvili, Dufrenne and Merleau-Ponty to existentialism’s congruence with Christianity or with atheism. Among the leading Husserlian insights are treated essence and experience, the place of questioning, ethics and intentionality, temporality and passivity and the life world. The following book will uncover the perennial concerns guiding the wondrous interplay of these two inspirational sources.

"They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world" (John 17:16). God has always had a people distinctly different from the peoples of the world""not better but different. The entire Bible is a cohesive, comprehensive canon of sanctification, culminating in the gospel of Jesus Christ and him crucified. What we commonly call the "high priestly" prayer of Jesus Christ is his prayer for all who believe in him. "Sanctify (or set apart) them through thy Truth: thy Word is Truth" (John 17:17). A Christian is one who lives by every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God and not according to the standards of this world system. True Christianity is Christ consciousness. Only an awareness of the cross of Jesus Christ in the harrowing truth of its raw austerity can keep me loyal and accountable to God's gift of amazing grace in his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. His cross is my cross, and it is your cross. Only the preaching of the cross of Jesus Christ can keep the miracle of redemption alive. Our identity with the death, burial, and resurrection of the LORD Jesus Christ is what makes us different. We are the continuity of the love of God in Christ extended to the worst of humanity; truly, a love not of the world. A Christian is one who lives to perpetuate this love of God in the earth. Conversely, what this book calls mainstream Christianity in America fundamentally lives for themselves. Someone must say so. Someone must tell contemporary, worldly conciliatory, and carnally compromised Christianity that God is a Holy Spirit whom the LORD Jesus Christ emphatically said the world cannot receive (see John 14:17). In this age of all-permissive grace, a Christian is identified by their living according to the truth of God's comprehensive Word and by a marked separation from this world system. "If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him" (see 1 John 2:15). Indeed, and as this book without apology declares, the love of the Father is Christ.

Placed in the wider scope of post-war European decolonisation migrations, The Retornados from the Portuguese Colonies in Africa looks at the "Return" of the Portuguese nationals living in the African colonies when they became independent. Using an interdisciplinary research agenda, the book presents a collection of research essays written by experts in the fields of anthropology, history, literature and the arts, that look at a wide range of memory narratives through which the Return—as well as the experiences of war, violence, loss and trauma—have been expressed, contested and internalised in the social realm. These narratives include testimonial accounts from the so-called retornados from Africa and their descendants, as well as works of fiction and public memory—novels, television series, artworks, films or social media—that have come to mediate the public understanding of this past. Through the dialogue between these different narrative modes, this book intends to explore the interplay between official memory, the lived experience and fiction, thus contributing to build an empirical basis to critically discuss the memory of the end of the Portuguese empire within postcolonial Europe. This book will be of great interest to postgraduates, researchers and academics, most notably the ones working in the fields of postcolonial studies, cultural studies and memory studies.
