Of this work one thousand copies were, with the approbation and permission of Prince Albert, distributed gratuitously to one thousand exhibitors. The National Temperance Society which had been for some time declining, was now re-organized, and the Rev. Thomas Spencer, late of Hinton Charter House, was appointed secretary, and Mr. Cornelius Newcombe, assistant secretary. The Temperance Gazette and the Teetotal Times were incorporated with the National Temperance Chronicle, and Mr. Spencer put forth great efforts to increase its circulation, in which he succeeded to a very large extent.
