Holy God, Fallen World, Book 2, is a collection of 102 individual stories taken from the New Testament that tell about the incredible ministries of Jesus Christ and His apostles. Jesus's coming to the earth was the next stage of the conflict between our Holy God and the sinful, fallen world, a conflict that has been under way ever since Adam and Eve disobeyed God, and brought sin and death into the world. This conflict is a deadly battle because unless people according to God's standards of righteousness, they face an eternity of punishment. This is God's world. He created it, and He established the righteous standards that must be followed. Before Jesus came to the earth, God entered into a covenant with the people of Israel under which He set forth commandments and laws that men and women had to obey if they wanted to please Him. Sadly, the men and women of Israel were not able to obey God's laws, and they turned to worship false religions. As a result, the people were lost in their sinfulness, and destined for eternal punishment. It is not possible for the people of the fallen world to live righteous lives. God knew that people could not be saved unless He provided a Savior, so He sent His Son Jesus to the earth to die on a cross as the atoning sacrifice that would satisfy God's demand for justice. With the coming of Jesus Christ, the conflict between God and the fallen world entered into a new dimension, a New Covenant, in which acceptability by God did not depend on man's obedience to God's laws. Instead, salvation depends upon a person's believing in Jesus Christ in saving faith. When Jesus died on the cross, and then arose from the tomb, it proved that He had conquered sin, Satan, and death. However, Satan remains a deadly enemy until he is finally destroyed. Satan knows his days are numbered, so he and his followers are doing everything possible to harm God's people. Since the coming of Jesus Christ, the conflict between God and the fallen world has become a battle for the eternal spiritual lives of every person. Will they spend eternity in the presence of God, or in the fires of punishment? The battle against Satan and his followers is fought, not over material possessions of the fallen world, but over the souls of men and women. People who believe in Jesus are saved, and they inherit eternal life. Those who reject Jesus are condemned to eternal punishment. The essence of the battle is this: God wants all people to be saved. In contrast, Satan wants all people to be condemned. The lessons contained in the stories in this book cover the ministries of Jesus and His apostles as recorded in the New Testament. There are many events, miracles, discourses, warnings, and lessons that point to the righteous and obedient way of life that God demands. Jesus and His apostles earnestly call for all people to accept Jesus as Savior and Lord, and be saved. However, there is active and deadly, satanic opposition by the fallen world at every step. Not only does Satan desire to turn every person away from belief in Jesus, but he also wants to pull Christians away from their relationship with God into the morass of the fallen world. There is much to learn in these stories about how best Christians can defend themselves. The battle is far from over. In fact, the world of today is becoming increasingly immoral and corrupt. In the face of such turmoil and violence that is spreading throughout the world, these are timeless lessons that become more relevant with every passing day.

New York Times bestseller What is Jesus worth to you? It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily... But who do you know who lives like that? Do you? In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple--then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a "successful" suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus. Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment -- a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring.

If God is in control of everything, can Christians sit back and not bother to evangelize? Or does active evangelism imply that God is not really sovereign at all? J. I. Packer shows in this new edition to the popular IVP Classics how both of these attitudes are false. In a careful review of the biblical evidence, he shows how a right understanding of God's sovereignty is not so much a barrier to evangelism as an incentive and powerful support for it. With over 100,000 copies in print, Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God is truly a classic that should be read by every Christian.

Building on years of research and teaching, experienced author and theologian David Wells offers a remedy for evangelicalism’s superficial theology and weightless conception of God: a journey to discover the paradoxical nature of his holiness and love. We all struggle, at times, to hold that paradox together, commonly resulting in problems such as liberalism or legalism. Yet understanding how God’s holiness is inextricably bound to his love is what enables us to live between the two extremes and defines our life of service in this world. In the vein of classics such as Packer’s Knowing God, Wells’s biblical theology is written at an accessible level so that all readers can cultivate a balanced vision of the God who belongs in the center of it all.
