Too many people fail to take control of their lives, allowing themselves to fall victim and accept whatever happens. When you choose to dream--and defy the naysayers all around--you can change direction and accomplish nearly anything you set out to achieve. In Changing Direction, Mary Miller lays out 10 choices anyone can make to impact his or her dreams. By concentrating on improving the future, you become a new, happier, and more energized person. Miller describes how she first seized control of her life in 1987 as a then-30-year-old, twice-divorced, single mother of three. She explains how she later found the fortitude--and support--to buck conventional wisdom and change the direction of the family business she led with her third husband, Tony. To address their biggest obstacle--turnover--they began encouraging people to achieve their dreams and developed the Dream Manager program, a world-renowned initiative helping employees identify dreams, set goals, and work to reach a better future. Miller explains that there are few things worse than having no control. You may feel lost. You may feel desperate. You may feel despair, but it does not have to be this way. Changing Direction weaves Miller's amazing personal story of triumph and transformation with 10 practical choices you can make today in order to move from victim to victor. To get started, all you have to do is dream.

NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A modern classic explores the connections between science and art, the process of creativity, and ultimately the fragility of human existence. “A magical, metaphysical realm ... Captivating, enchanting, delightful.” —The New York Times Einstein’s Dreams is a fictional collage of stories dreamed by Albert Einstein in 1905, about time, relativity and physics. As the defiant but sensitive young genius is creating his theory of relativity, a new conception of time, he imagines many possible worlds. In one, time is circular, so that people are fated to repeat triumphs and failures over and over. In another, there is a place where time stands still, visited by lovers and parents clinging to their children. In another, time is a nightingale, sometimes trapped by a bell jar. Now translated into thirty languages, Einstein’s Dreams has inspired playwrights, dancers, musicians, and painters all over the world. In poetic vignettes, it explores the connections between science and art, the process of creativity, and ultimately the fragility of human existence.

This study explored the relationship between dreams, discernment, and spiritual intelligence. It focused on the experience of people who use dreams to help them with spiritual discernment or decision-making in a spiritual context. A case study methodology included questionnaires, personal dream records, and interviews to understand the seven participants experiences of exploring their dreams for guidance. Participants were self-selected by answering an ad seeking people whose dreams had helped them to make a decision, who journaled their dreams, and who consider themselves to be spiritual. Most participants reported being drawn to dreamwork by a significant life experience. While participants shared different perceptions as to what discernment consists of, each participant reported that dreams helped them to grow spiritually. A number of outcomes were exemplified, falling into two main grouping: a) the use of discernment in order to understand a dream (whether or not they ended up reaching a resolution or making a decision about the dream) and b) the use of dreams as part of a discernment process (whether or not the dreams helped them to resolve their discernment issue or make a decision). The intensity of emotion attached to an issue seemed, for some, to render it more difficult to arrive at particular decisions. For others, dreams seemed to ease the burden of discernment or decision-making by raising their degree of confidence towards their resolution or decision. Deepening appreciation of and growing desire for living spiritually, and learning more about spirituality were indicators of a developing spiritual intelligence. For most, spiritual growth occurred through knowledge or learning gained from their dreams. For some, their belief about God s role in their life impacted their experience of the Divine in their dreams. Finally, the study showed that individuals are not always aware of what had helped them, suggesting a subconscious process at work in both discernment and decision-making. The study affirmed a triadic link between dreams, discernment, and spiritual intelligence among people involved in spiritual dreamwork. It demonstrated ways by which the discernment process can build confidence in people who are turning to their dreams for guidance in a spiritual context.

A Profound Method to Work with Dreams In research at the University of Chicago, Dr. Gendlin found that certain specific bodily responses can open up and lead to small steps of a new experience. These bodily responses can indicate the steps for interpreting a dream. Theories about dreams differ and give contradictory interpretations. Dr. Gendlin derives 16 questions from the many existing theories to aid you, the dreamer, in. the process of interpretation. In this book Dr. Gendlin teaches you to ask the questions so that your body can respond . You learn to recognize how it feels when a question is about to lead to a breakthrough. You learn to let the question complete itself so that the dream opens and you know without doubt what it is about. The first stage is learning what the dream is about. But this alone may not yet tell you anything you did not know before. The second stage is getting something new from the dream for your own development. The BIAS CONTROL solves what was, until now, an insurmountable problem: People could not interpret their own dreams because they always imposed their usual biases on them. The BIAS CONTROL shows you how to open yourself to a new step. Eugene T. Gendlin, Ph.D., is Professor of Psychology at the University of Chicago. He has written books and articles in philosophy and psychology. His work has been translated into more than seven languages. He was for many years the editor of Psychotherapy: Theory, Research, and Practice. In 1970 he was chosen by the Psychotherapy Division of the American Psychological Association for their first "Distinguished Professional Psychologist of the Year" Award.
