Merrill, botanist, Bureau of Science, Manila, P. I., and on a study of the plant specimens in the industrial museum of the Bureau of Education. The writer is also deeply indebted to Mr. Merrill for many helpful suggestions. Drawings in this bulletin are by Mr. Juan Santos, a student in the University of the Philippines. Acknowledgment is due for the review of this bulletin in the manuscript to Mrs. T. E. Borden, Mrs. C. E. Ander son, Messrs. H. H. Miller, E. D. Merrill, L. R. Sawyer, J. F. Minier, Luther Parker, U.
