Many famous antique texts are misunderstood and many others have been completely dismissed, all because the literary style in which they were written is unfamiliar today. So argues Mary Douglas in this controversial study of ring composition, a technique which places the meaning of a text in the middle, framed by a beginning and ending in parallel. To read a ring composition in the modern linear fashion is to misinterpret it, Douglas contends, and today's scholars must reevaluate important antique texts from around the world. Found in the Bible and in writings from as far a field as Egypt, China, Indonesia, Greece, and Russia, ring composition is too widespread to have come from a single source. Does it perhaps derive from the way the brain works? What is its function in social contexts? The author examines ring composition, its principles and functions, in a cross-cultural way. She focuses on ring composition in Homer's Iliad, the Bible's book of Numbers, and, for a challenging modern example, Laurence Sterne's Tristram Shandy, developing a persuasive argument for reconstruing famous books and rereading neglected ones.

Israel's Restoration Is Near is a book that gives a breakdown of all prophetic events beginning with John the Baptist and ending with America. It shows how the United States, although not directly referenced in Scripture, is God's end-time nation that is being used to usher in the ultimate salvation of Israel. It describes the prophetic calendar used throughout history and explains how God uses the 490-year period to usher in new events throughout history. This book describes how the ancient prophets predicted the fall of Jerusalem and explains how during this fall, salvation came to the world to provoke Israel to jealousy and fulfill Scripture. Israel's Restoration Is Near shows how the Holy Roman Empire was used to temporarily replace the ancient Israel and rid the world from idol worship. It shows how this empire helped the world to transition from an ancient world to the modern world. Once modern nations emerged, God's prophetic clock and 490 years again began its countdown, resulting in a series of events that led to the rebirth of the nation of Israel, and the rise of the greatest nation in history America. Israel's Restoration Is Near shows that at the end of the 490-year period, which began in the Reformation of 1517, the time line for America's demise also began (in 2007) and the birth of Islamic movement began, which would ultimately lead to the Gog and Magog war and not the rapture. The book shows, according to Scripture, that period of Antichrist and tribulation occurs one thousand years before Gog and Magog. During this prophetic countdown, unlike the typical prophetic interpretations, the world is being prepared for as Scripture predicts, the deliverer, salvation of Israel, and a temporary period of peace that would lead to the Gog and Magog war.

This study identifies and explores texts of restoration in a wide selection of Early Jewish Literature in order to assess the variety of ways in which Jews envisioned Israel’s future restoration. Particular attention is given to the expression of restoration in what is identified in the present study as the exilic model of restoration. In this model, Israel’s restoration is characterized by the features of (a) a future re-gathering, (b) the fate of the nations, and (c) the establishment of a new Temple. The present work focuses primarily on the first two features. Through this framework Jews in the Greco-Roman period could draw on Israel’s history and legacy, but re-appropriate ‘exile and return’ in new and creative ways. Finally, the writing of Luke-Acts is investigated for its ideas of restoration and its indebtedness to Early Jewish traditions.
