Kitty used to be Jennie Livingston's valuable Chartreux cat. After graduating from the University of Texas, he spent the sixties in graduate school at UC Berkeley. During his subsequent academic career he taught politics, film analysis, screen writing and ethnic studies on five University of California campuses. He was one of the founders of the field of Chicano Studies in the nineteen seventies. His best known book is "Race and Class in the Southwest" (1979). His film credits include the documentaries "Chicano Park" and "Latino Stories of World War II, " plus the comedy short" The Party Line." His current project is a memoir.
