Excerpt from Land, Money and Highways: Evils and Remedies It is my overwhelming conviction that the application of the remedies herein suggested to the evils pointed out will bring about a just relation between Capital and Labor, and insure a fair division of the wealth thereafter created by their combined employment, and establish justice in many departments of our economic system. Politics in its highest sense is the science of government and as such only, is it treated in the following pages. At present I stand, with many others, without a party but not, thank God, without a country! The subjects treated are of such vast importance as to warrant a much more voluminous work. But such a book I think could not so well serve my purpose-which is to reach the great mass of voters who have no time in which to read large books, as well as those of more leisure. I have therefore expressed my thoughts in as few words as possible-recalling in justification the old sayings, "Brevity is the soul of wit," and "Enough is as good as a feast." Extracts from this pamphlet, accompanied with proper acknowledgments, will not be treated as infringements of the copyright.
