The Symposium the culmination of over two years of work that included the preparation of the papers by the authors, as well as the refereeing, proof-reading and indexing by the editors. The proceedings volume contains sixty-four papers which cover all aspects of lead and zinc processing, including the global business trends of the metals, plant operations, new processing installations, emerging technologies and environmental considerations. The Lead-Zinc 2000 Symposium will also honor Dr. T.R.A. Davey for his many contributions to metallurgical science and the industry throughout his distinguished career.

The Deposit Modeling Program was founded by UNESCO-IUGS with the major aim to disseminate knowledge from scientists in more developed countries to their counterparts from less developed ones. A fringe benefit of this effort was the compilation of information on existing models and promotion of topical workshops in developing countries. This book is the result of one such workshop that took place in Delhi and Udaipur, India, in December 2001. Sediment-hosted Lead-Zinc Sulphide Deposits compiles the work of renowned economic geologists from three continents. The authors highlight the recent advances in the understanding of the temporal and tectono-stratigraphic distribution of sediment-hosted Pb-Zn sulphide ores and processes governing their genesis. The first section comprises five chapters covering some of the most important deposits of this class in Australia and Canada in detail, emphasizing their genetic models. It also includes a paper on the "geoenvironmental model," which concerns behavior before mining and resulting from mining, processing, and smelting. Annotation Lead has come under attack from environmental legislation, but the lead industry is far from pessimistic about its prospects. Demand for lead for SLI batteries is rising, along with growth in new car demand in Eastern Europe, China, the rest of the Far East and Latin America, while in the developed world the demand for replacement SLI batteries is a constant and growing feature. Over 80% of all the lead now used in the US is for the production of lead-acid batteries. Global zinc mine output is expected to rise by 4.2% to 9Mt in 2001: this is mainly as a consequence of increased output at the Lisheen mine in Ireland, additions to capacity in Mexico and Peru, and a further rise in output at the many small mines spread throughout China. However, these rises will be partially balanced by reductions in Canada, Japan, Spain, Sweden and Turkey. Up-to-date, in-depth research and analysis to make you an authority on the world's major nickel markets This report examines these two closely-related metals individually, analyzing the key issues for the future including the impact of developments in the environmental arena and the recycling marketplace. Some key findings of this report: Several new zinc-producing mines in Australia will also yield significant amounts of lead, including Pillara, Century and George Fisher which will produce 34,000tpy, 45,000tpy and 100,000tpy of contained lead respectively. This share is forecast to rise to 80% by 2010, driven mainly by growth in demand from motor vehicles.
