Most of this book is fiction about the possible exploration of Mars in the future and travel to a near star. There are enough facts mentioned about progress in space travel to support the fact that more advanced space travel is possible. Having a colony of people on Mars could provide ideas to people living on earth to have a more healthy life. With growing world population and declining resources, because of the degrading environment we must think about life in the future. With Apollo 11, Neil Armstrong was able to set foot on the surface of the moon and give the first opportunity for astronauts to travel in space outside of the earths orbit. He wore a pressurized space suit to move about on the moons surface. Because the moon has no air or water, he had to return to earth in a short time. Additional Apollo trips were made to the moon including a moon buggy for short range transportation. Further trips to the moon were canceled because of the development of the International Space Station and the Shuttle. Rocket probes and robotic rovers which made the voyage to Mars landed to explore for water and minerals. Rockets have become double edged sword that can be used for Fourth of July celebrations and for space exploration, where they are put to good use. When used in warfare as ICBMs or in small military missiles, they can become leathal tools of war. This book is partially factual dealing with rocket events that have occurred. Some of the 8 Raymond Wisniewski mostly fiction Martian rocket events, in the book, still have to happen. Hermann Oberth, a German physicist was considered, The Father of Space Travel, who Werner von Braun admired. The United States allowed Werner von Braun to come to America after World War II to prevent German missile technology from falling into Russian hands and help the U.S. Army missile programs to get started and developed. Our space technology grew from von Brauns early work on Army missiles and with his work at the NASA George C. Marshall Space Flight Center. Rocket work at Redstone Arsenal paved the way for NASA to develop the Apollo moon rocket. After the Apollo missions to the moon, rocket propulsion helped lift the Space Shuttle and Space Station into earth orbit. The idea of going to Mars was considered the next space goal. The use of robotics in space, sending a men to Mars and finding life somewhere in space has stimulated space enthusiasts. Rocket propulsion has shown that payloads can be carried from small distances to intercontinental and outer space distances. Rockets have been and are now being used for peaceful purposes to put up satellites for television, communication systems and for GPS uses. Robotic vehicles as the Curiosity rover have landed on Mars and have explored for water and atmospheric conditions. To use of robotic vehicles and robots aiding astronauts in the future can paved the way for the eventual use of human astronauts for trips to Mars. There have been many science fiction stories about Mars. The stories have told about people living on Mars in advanced societies and how easy it was to take trips to Mars and fly around in rocket spaceships. We know now that Mars has a hostile environment with no air for humans and no Mars and Beyond 9 liquid water is to be found. This book shows the challenges of going to Mars and the stars and providing life support for the astronauts. This book is dedicated to my family and friends and to those who have helped me along the way to gain knowledge and move to a life in engineering and rocket technology.

Mars Underneath The story is set in a futuristic world when terra-formation and colonization of Mars have been completed; but human explorers failed to cross the other side of Mount Olympus, the highest mountain of the solar system. There is a secret passageway, which opens up in Twenty Earth Years. Beyond the Olympus, an unknown land awaits, from where Eagle King and his retinue come to the Martian South in search of slaves. However, within the volcano, there are lives and cities, completely unknown to human explorers. The original inhabitants of Mars have set up a league in demand of an alien free planet, which shakes the very foundation of human colonies on the red planet. Set in the two planets, two different worlds, the first part of the trilogy depicts Geologist Erik Muller's journey to the unknown part of Mars. Erik's girlfriend Volga promised to save an Old Martes (original inhabitant of Mars) girl from torture and enslavement. Erik and Volga tried to fulfill their promise and encountered the King of Terra Aquillan in an open combat. However, they lost and Erik was detained by the King and Volga disappeared mysteriously. Erik lost his identity in a strange planet and twenty years later his luck gave him an opportunity to return to the Earth. In the midst of political turmoil and chaos; Erik found himself in overwhelming odds. Though he managed to secure the new Eagle King's favor but faced various odd trials and finally won. The King gave him an opportunity to return to Earth, but can he meet again his colleagues or he will remain forever on the Red Planet?

This book explores the practicality of using the existing subsurface geology on the Moon and Mars for protection against radiation, thermal extremes, micrometeorites and dust storms rather than building surface habitats at great expense at least for those first few missions. It encourages NASA to plan a precursor mission using this concept and employ a “Short Stay” Opposition Class mission to Mars as the first mission rather than the “Long Stay” concept requiring a mission that is too long, too dangerous and too costly for man’s first missions to Mars. Included in these pages is a short history on the uses of caves by early humans over great periods of time. It then describes the ongoing efforts to research caves, pits, tunnels, lava tubes, skylights and the associated technologies that pertain to potential lunar and Mars exploration and habitation. It describes evidence for existing caves and lava tubes on both the Moon and Mars. The work of noted scientists, technologists and roboticists are referenced and described. This ongoing work is moreextensive than one would think and is directly applicable to longer term habitation and exploration of the Moon and Mars. Emphasis is also given to the operational aspects of working and living in lunar and Martian caves and lava tubes.

Discover the third book in the On Mars series, stories of a Martian colony in our near-future. The sixth generation of settlers are new-adults now. Construction robots and the artificial intelligence Governor return in this story, joined by the Hermit's new bots and new settlers - disciplined Cerberans and rebellious mkazzi. The colony on Mars is thriving but Sig's life is falling apart, both in the robotics lab and with his partner. An urgent call from his mother - who lives in the Hermit's cavern, beyond the safety of the colony - seems like a fine chance to escape for a while. Sig yearns to recapture the freedom of his youth, but with freedom comes danger. At the southern tip of the magnificent Tartarus Mountains is Cerberus Base, the colony's mining and technology center. The colony has grown to over eight hundred settlers and Cerberans are dedicated to the Big Project - a multigenerational ambition to unite the three settlements with a transit corridor. In the robotics lab, Sig designs the bots that make survival possible on the hostile planet, but his greatest innovation is about to be scraped, and he's lost the Lab Leader job and his self-respect. He gets no sympathy from his partner, Helmi, whose dedication to protocols and the greater-good has turned grating. Life inside the colony bays hasn't prepared Sig for the rigors of a hostile Martian surface or for the strange society of the mkazzi - the miners who live in the cavern and explore the surrounding mountains for rare crystalline minerals. Rogues steal Sig's rider - his way home - and since no one's ever seen the Hermit, the mkazzi's blind trust in his life support systems could be deadly. It's not all bad - especially when Sig meets an attractive young woman - but exploring the surface of Mars is treacherous and sometimes fatal. Nothing works out the way Sig hopes as he struggles to save the cavern dwellers and his mother while trying to find his lost joy in life. Today's headlines scream about colonizing Mars: NASA, Mars One, SpaceX, The Mars Society, The Planetary Society, and others seek to turn the dream into reality. Science fiction can take you there now, away from the early fantasies of Edgar Rice Burroughs to Ben Bova [The Grand Tour Mars], Kim Stanley Robinson [Red Mars], and Andy Weir [The Martian]. To Kate Rauner's On Mars series. Journey to a colony you might live in someday soon.

This book introduces the Martian simulations of The Mars Society, the first one installed on Devon Island, an uninhabited island in the Canadian Arctic, well within the polar circle, and the second in the desert of Utah, several hundreds of kilometers South of Salt Lake City. The book is based on the diaries held during the simulations, by Vladimir Pletser, a physicist-engineer, who was selected to participate in these simulations. It relates the details of everyday life in these Martian habitats and of the scientific and exploratory work conducted in these extreme environments in preparation for future manned missions to Mars. Through the real experiences described in the book, readers will find space explorations and living on Mars more tangible.

Colony One Mars All contact is lost with the first human colony on Mars during a long and destructive sandstorm. Satellite imagery of the aftermath shows extensive damage to the facility. The fifty-four colonists who called it home are presumed dead. Three years later, a new mission sets down on the planet surface to investigate what remains of the derelict site. But, it's not long before they realize the colony is not as lifeless as everyone thought. Someone is still alive -- hiding out somewhere. Yet, before they can find the elusive colonist a strange illness starts to affect the crew. Pressure now mounts on Biologist, Dr. Jann Malbec, to locate the source and find a way to fight it. However, as she investigates she begins to suspect a dark and deadly secret lurking within the colony. A secret that threatens not just the crew but the entire population of Earth. With limited resources and time running out, she must find some answers and find them fast. Because if she doesn't, none of them will be going home. Colony Two Mars The only survivor of the ill-fated ISA mission is now stranded on Mars. Having been designated a bio-hazard by Earth, any hope of returning home is all but gone. She is alone, isolated, and abandoned. That is, until another human shows up in the main colony airlock. However, he's barely alive and soon dies without regaining consciousness. More disturbing though, a DNA test identifies him as a colonist who has already died, several years earlier - impossible as that may be. Nevertheless, there is only one place he could have come from, the mine on the far side of the Jezero crater - Colony Two. An outpost they had presumed was long dead. But if he survived, maybe there are others still alive? She now has no choice but to attempt the dangerous journey across the crater to investigate. Because if she doesn't find some answers soon, her only future is to die alone on Mars. Colony Three Mars Now that the truth of the genetic experiments on Mars has been revealed, new missions are on their way to gain control of this extraordinary technology. In the process, they seek to exploit and enslave the colonists-turning them into nothing more than lab rats. Worse, these newcomers are well armed, and prepared to go to war with each other to win control of the colony and its people. But Dr. Jann Malbec has a secret, one that she could use to spare the colony and save the colonists from this fate. However, by using it she will almost certainly doom Earth to a planet-wide pandemic of apocalyptic proportions. Yet she must choose. Earth or Mars-which is is going to be?
