Our Chapel was not open 7 days a week because there were not enough Chaplains. If you are looking for a ministry, there is a great need for Chaplains. Truck drivers are one of the least groups that Christian’s minister to. Even churches who almost sit next door to truck stops, disregard them. Compared to the number of “Full Service” Truck Stops there are few Chapels. You could say there are virtually none. And, even worse there are few Full Time and Volunteer Chaplains to staff them. Most of the Chapels are not open 24 hours or even 7 days a week. OTR Drivers are active 24 hours a day. With so few Chapels and Chaplains, that limits drivers to even have access to a Chapel, much less find one open. There are very few churches, even in rural areas that have room in their parking lots for a “big rig.” It is a much-needed domestic ministry. It lacks Chapels because there are so few Chaplains. Chaplains have to raise their own financial support. The lack of financial support means Chaplains, both Full Time and volunteer, need to raise their own support. Local church support, along with individual support, for this domestic mission is needed.

This book is a set of reflections and recollections of a driver's 40 plus years in the hard and unforgiving world of the haulage and transport industry. It delves into the methods resorted to, in order to survive and make ends meet for him and his family, in a world where the driver is considered the lowest of the low. There is both humour and pathos and some love and some violence. There are tales of underhand dealings, fiddles and thievery. It tells of times when truck driving was a man's world. Hard relentless toil, long, unsocial hours when there was no power steering and all gearboxes were constant mesh. When roping and sheeting was the norm. When trucking wasn't just a job. It was a way of life. Laurie Driver is the pseudonym of Dennis Burnier Smith who has just recently retired from the haulage industry.

In the days immediately following 9/11, Joseph Stowell attended a special Chicago Prayer Breakfast. He was encouraged to learn there was much interest in God and spirituality among the attendees. He was troubled, however, by the subtle implication common among the speakers that day that Jesus, with His exclusive claims, was unwelcome. That, “given the broad diversity of religions in America, we now need to give up the 'traditions' that divide those of us who believe in God. Stowell left the breakfast even more determined to preach the centrality of Christ in the church. Proclaiming Jesus is a collection of essays, written by faculty of the Moody Bible Institute in honor of Dr. Stowell, that take up the message he proclaimed, making it clear that every area of church life and ministry is about Jesus.

A View from the Fog recalls one woman's struggle to accept the loss of both parents in a single automobile accident. It is an account of both grief and hope, darkness and light, love and loss. As a lay minister raised in the United Methodist Church, Jada still felt like a three-time orphan. Her mother and father are dead, and God has gone silent. With prayer support and loving friends, Jada heard God speak again, "I love you and will never leave you." Jada has asked and wrestled with some of the questions you will probably face in the fog. She does not presume to offer answers, only hope in the presence of a loving God, the God who truly loves you and would never, ever leave you.
