By the outbreak of World War II, the Bf 108 was in widespread service with the Luftwaffe as a communications and ferry aircraft. Both pre- and postwar, the Bf 108 was a popular and widely used civil light aircraft. Profusely illustrated with photos, including a comprehensive walk-around section showing all aspects of the airframe, and diagrams from official manuals. Includes 1/72nd and 1/48th scale plans of all variants, and color profiles showing many of the colorful schemes applied to the bf 108 by its many users.

Even today, the Messerschmitt Bf 108 Taifun is considered to be one of the most elegant touring aircraft in the world. In 1938 the manufacturer published a brochure that was intended to familiarize potential customers with the advantages of this four-seater aircraft. Versions as aerial photography, for long-distance flights or for rescue missions were also presented.A short introduction brings the history of the Taifun to life again. From her maiden flight in 1934 to the final days of world war 2, she was busy - and some examples are today. She flew with private pilots around the world and was a popular liaison aircraft with the Luftwaffe. This series with extremely rare documents is intended to help historians and aeronautical researchers gain a deeper look at the German aviation and missile industry and some chapters of the Air War over Europe from 1939 to 1945.This are 41 pages of an unique historical document. Detailed technical data and a precise overview of the cockpit instruments are included. Many drawings of details and the interior explain the structure of the aircraft for the specialist or model builder. The German text of the brochure is complete and literally translated. A fine collector's item for enthusiasts of aviation history.

Willy Messerschmitt (1898-1978) was indisputably one of the most significant of Germany's aeronautical design engineers. This book examines Messerschmitt's life as a designer, aircraft builder, and businessman; it begins with the Harth-Messerschmitt gliders (1913-1923), winds its way through the sportplanes of the 1920s and 1930s, the M 18 and M 20 passenger airliners, the Bf 108 Taifun commuter plane, the Bf/Me 109, 110, 210, 410 military aircraft, and continues on to the Me 261, 264, 321, and 323 behemoths, as well as the Me 262 jet powered combat plane and swing-wing P.1101. The activities of the Messerschmitt AG after World War II, with the forced interruption of German aircraft production and Professor Messerschmitt's foreign developments in Spain and Egypt, are also given a thorough treatment.

The PB2Y Coronado was a large flying boat patrol bomber designed by Consolidated Aircraft. After deliveries of the PBY Catalina, also a Consolidated aircraft, began in 1935, the United States Navy began planning for the next generation of patrol bombers. Orders for two prototypes, the XPB2Y-1 and the Sikorsky XPBS-1, were placed in 1936; the prototype Coronado first flew in December 1937. After trials with the XPB2Y-1 prototype revealed some stability issues, the design was finalized as the PB2Y-2, with a large cantilever wing, twin tail, and four Pratt & Whitney R-1830 radial engines. The two inner engines were fitted with four-bladed reversible pitch propellers; the outer engines had standard three-bladed feathering props. Like the PBY Catalina before it, the PB2Y's wingtip floats retracted to reduce drag and increase range.

This handbook concerns the collection of Air Technical Intelligence, and the test flying of war prizes carried out by two RCAF bomber pilots who were posted to the Royal Aircraft Establishment's Foreign Aircraft Flight, Farnborough, in the United Kingdom in May 1945. Their primary task was to visit former Luftwaffe airfields, and to find and fly back any aircraft they deemed worthy of evaluation. The list of aircraft found here does not include every German combat aircraft of the Second World War, as it focuses on those warbirds captured and flown by members of the RCAF, or sent to Canada as war prizes. Very few of these rare aircraft exist today, and therefore, information on known locations where German, Japanese and Italian warbird survivors may be found is included. As a member of the Canadian Aviation Preservation Association and the Canadian Aviation Artists Association, the author strongly supports the preservation of Canada's aviation heritage. The primary intent of this handbook is to provide information for aviation artists and enthusiasts looking for that unusual "never before painted" military aviation subject, and to support the efforts of those engaged in the search for those missing warbirds for which no examples currently exist.
