About the Book This book is a day by day journey through the Gospels, a journey where you can discover the life of Jesus as if you were actually there; seeing, hearing, and experiencing the miraculous Love of God as told by those who were closest to Him. Feel the faith of Mary even as she ponders what it will mean to bear God’s Son, and her husband Joseph as he first struggles with the news of her pregnancy, but then demonstrates the meaning of obedience to God. See the Disciples as they are profoundly transformed by Jesus’ words and the miracles they witnessed each day. Experience the emotion and bewilderment of Jesus’ followers as they helplessly watch His agonizing death, which only days later is turned to joy and awe after His resurrection. Consider Jesus’ final instructions to His followers before returning to heaven, and the effect they had on them, as well as for us today. About the Author Michael Helm lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with his wife Shirley and their two cats. He enjoys music and the arts, growing flowers, good coffee and friends, stimulating conversations, and the outdoors.

What will become of us in these trying times? How will we pass the time that we have on earth? In gorgeously rendered graphic form, Light in Dark Times invites readers to consider these questions by exploring the political catastrophes and moral disasters of the past and present, revealing issues that beg to be studied, understood, confronted, and resisted. A profound work of anthropology and art, this book is for anyone yearning to understand the darkness and hoping to hold onto the light. It is a powerful story of encounters with writers, philosophers, activists, and anthropologists whose words are as meaningful today as they were during the times in which they were written. This book is at once a lament over the darkness of our times, an affirmation of the value of knowledge and introspection, and a consideration of truth, lies, and the dangers of the trivial. In a time when many of us struggle with the feeling that we cannot do enough to change the course of the future, this book is a call to action, asking us to envision and create an alternative world from the one in which we now live. Light in Dark Times is beautiful to look at and to hold – an exquisite work of art that is lively, informative, enlightening, deeply moving, and inspiring.

There are love stories and then there's Days Like These—the story of Kristian and Rachel Anderson. When Kristian wanted to show his wife, Rachel, how much he loved her after learning he was terminally ill, he ended up winning a million hearts around the world, thanks to the now famous YouTube video he made for her 35th birthday. This heartfelt and moving tribute by a young Australian father of two and his battle with cancer drew attention to a much larger story—an ordeal so many families face alone. Like Oprah, who invited Kristian and Rachel on her show, and Hugh Jackman, who helped make one of Kristian's dreams come true by appearing on the tribute, though we didn't know him, we were so inspired by him we felt like we did. He touched lives, gave hope, and left behind a precious legacy that will mean a longer and better quality of life for thousands of cancer sufferers. His story, told in his own words from his blog entries, with additions from his beloved Rachel, will inspire you to know that even in your darkest moments, the light can shine through.

There comes a point in our lives where we need to sit back and take time to reflect on all the things that led us to where we are standing in this exact moment. Most commonly, we will not take that moment to reflect until we are knee deep in the quicksand of our hardest times. When we are at this point, we tend to feel as if there is no way out of the current situation. To us, it is as if the lights at the end of the tunnel were only a myth used to convince us to continue further into the darkness until we become forever lost. For those of us that never give up, we have experienced the proof that every rocky road eventually smooths out and no storm lasts forever. For those of us that are currently standing in the quicksand, the poetry within the pages of this book will provide a brief synopsis of hard times, good times, difficult realizations, the enjoyment, and indulgence of natureÕs incredible beauty, and a coming to faith that there is something greater, not only than us, but also within us.

In 1930s Bolivia, self-described Anarchist Cholas form a libertarian trade union. In the Northern Highlands of Vietnam, the songs of one girl’s youth lead her to a life of activism. In the Philippines, female elders from Kalinga blaze a trail when pushed into an impromptu protest. Equally striking accounts from, Chile, Ecuador, India, Nepal, and Peru weave a tapestry of trauma and triumph, shedding light on not-too-distant histories otherwise overlooked. Indigenous Peoples all over the world have always had to stand their ground in the face of colonialism. While the details may differ, what these stories have in common is their commitment to resistance in a world that puts profit before respect, and western notions of progress before their own. Movements & Moments is an introductory glimpse into how Indigenous Peoples tell these stories in their own words. From Southeast Asia to South America, vibrant communities must grapple with colonial realities to assert ownership over their lands and traditions. This project was undertaken in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Indonesien in Jakarta. These stories were selected from an open call across forty-two countries to spotlight feminist movements and advocacies in the Global South.
