(Symbiobiotic) Great Partnership: Clownfish and Sea Anemones Clownfish and sea anemones are a very famous partnership in the ocean. Clownfish take refuge in the anemone's tentacles, and they are immune to the anemone's venom. Instead, the clownfish's slime protects the anemone from herbivores and other potential hazards. This mutually beneficial relationship helps both parties survive and reproduce. The clownfish are safe under the protection of the anemone and can find food in the anemone's tentacles, while the anemone provides nutrients and protection from the clownfish. In addition to a mutually beneficial relationship, this partnership showcases the ecological diversity of nature. Through this cooperative approach, clownfish and sea anemones together form a micro-ecosystem that provides important ecological services to other organisms. What's amazing about this partnership is that the clownfish and sea anemone are so bonded, they're so interdependent on each other. If one of the creatures is threatened or suffers damage, the other will also be affected. This partnership shows us the interaction and interdependence between organisms, which has important implications for our protection and maintenance of the natural environment.

Charlie O'Shields is the creator of Doodlewash®, founder of World Watercolor Month in July, and host of the Sketching Stuff podcast. Every single day, for over three years, he created a watercolor illustration and wrote a short essay about whatever came to mind that day and posted it on his blog. These are some of the collected favorites along with some brand new musings. With over 180 illustrations, this book is part personal memoir and sometimes just a randomly fun romp through the sillier bits of this crazy world we all inhabit. Written to take on the impossible task of inspiring creativity, unleashing your inner child, and instilling hope, it will, at the very least, make you smile and touch your heart.

The study of coelenterates is now one of the most active fields of invertebrate zoology. There are many reasons for this, and not everyone would agree on them, but certain facts stand out fairly clearly. One of them is that many of the people who study coelenterates do so simply because they are interested in the animals for their own sake. This, however, would be true for other invertebrate groups and cannot by itself explain the current boom in coelenterate work. The main reasons for all this activity seem to lie in the considerable concentration of research effort and funding into three broad, general areas of biology: marine ecology, cellular-developmental biology and neurobiology, in all of which coelenterates have a key role to play. They are the dominant organisms, or are involved in an important way, in a variety of marine habitats, of which coral reefs are only one, and this automatically ensures their claims on the attention of ecologists and marine scientists. Secondly, the convenience of hydra and some other hydroids as experimental animals has long made them a natural choice for a variety of studies on growth, nutrition, symbiosis, morphogenesis and sundry aspects of cell biology. Finally, the phylogenetic position of the coelenterates as the lowest metazoans having a nervous system makes them uniquely interesting to those neurobiologists and behaviorists who hope to gain insights into the functioning of higher nervous systems by working up from the lowest level.

This heavily illustrated text teaches parasitology from a biological perspective. It combines classical descriptive biology of parasites with modern cell and molecular biology approaches, and also addresses parasite evolution and ecology. Parasites found in mammals, non-mammalian vertebrates, and invertebrates are systematically treated, incorporating the latest knowledge about their cell and molecular biology. In doing so, it greatly extends classical parasitology textbooks and prepares the reader for a career in basic and applied parasitology.
