An updated and expanded edition of the gritty, challenging, and utterly captivating portait of the homeless crisis. Ever Wonder What it Would Be Like to Live Homeless? Mike Yankoski did more than just wonder. By his own choice, Mike's life went from upper-middle class plush to scum-of-the-earth repulsive overnight. With only a backpack, a sleeping bag and a guitar, Mike and his traveling companion, Sam, set out to experience life on the streets in six different cities—from Washington D.C. to San Diego— and they put themselves to the test. For more than five months the pair experienced firsthand the extreme pains of hunger, the constant uncertainty and danger of living on the streets, exhaustion, depression, and social rejection—and all of this by their own choice. They wanted to find out if their faith was real, if they could actually be the Christians they said they were apart from the comforts they’d always known…to discover first hand what it means to be homeless in America. What you encounter in these pages will radically alter how you see your world—and may even change your life.

"At six years old Charles Mulli woke up one morning to find he had been completely abandoned by both parents. All alone he fell into a life of abject poverty, forcing Mulli to wander from hut to hut begging for food for his very survival, unable even to attend school. ..." As a teenager Mulli started a small taxi company which grew to be very successful. Eventually he expanded his business ventures to include real estate, insurance, and oil and gas distribution, becoming a highly successful businessman. But despite all his success, the growing struggle in his heart over the plight of thousands of Kenyan street children remained strong until one day he surrendered to the call of God on his life to sell everything he owned and begin rescuing street children from the slums of Kenya. His story is told here in My Journey of Faith from his own perspective, describing his incredible life of faith that is filled with love, miracles, and powerful answers to prayer, and demonstrates persuasively how a close walk with God is accessible to all of us even today. The reader will experience the amazing true stories of tragedy-turned-triumph where hopeless cases encounter the work of Charles Mulli’s and discover a new life they could not have imagined.

Part biography of a wartime adventurer, part detective story, and part faith journey, this intriguing book from a New York Times journalist and bestselling author takes us inside the modern-day making of a saint. The Saint Makers chronicles the unlikely alliance between Father Hotze and Dr. Andrea Ambrosi, a country priest and a cosmopolitan Italian canon lawyer, as the two piece together the life of a long dead Korean War hero and military chaplain and fashion it into a case for eternal divinity. Joe Drape offers a front row seat to the Catholic Church's saint-making machinery—which, in many ways, has changed little in two thousand years-and examines how, or if, faith and science can co-exist. This rich and unique narrative leads from the plains of Kansas to the opulent halls of the Vatican, through brutal Korean War prison camps, and into the stories of two individuals, Avery Gerleman and Chase Kear, whose lives were threatened by illness and injury and whose family and friends prayed to Father Kapaun, sparking miraculous recoveries in the heart of America. Gerleman is now a nurse, and Kear works as a mechanic in the aerospace industry. Both remain devoted to Father Kapaun, whose opportunity for sainthood relies in their belief and medical charts. At a time when the church has faced severe scandal and damage, and the world is at the mercy of a pandemic, this is an uplifting story about a priest who continues to an example of goodness and faith. Ultimately, The Saint Makers is the story of a journey of faith—for two priests separated by seventy years, for the two young athletes who were miraculously brought back to life with (or without) the intercession of the divine, as well as for readers—and the author—trying to understand and accept what makes a person truly worthy of the Congregation of Saints in the eyes of the Catholic Church.

The Good News is still good news. We live in a time of constant crisis -- of anxiety and insecurity. We are unsure of who and what to trust, no matter how anchored and seemingly untouchable the source. The Catholic Church is certainly no stranger to this controversy, and for many people it is the very source of one's crisis. For all these reasons, we ask ourselves the haunting question, "Why do we believe?" Father Benedict J. Groeschel knows that asking "Why believe?" can be an important and positive step toward deepening one's relationship with Christ and His Church. The popular author, psychologist, and teacher knows firsthand the doubts and questions experienced on every journey of faith -- as well as the answers people seek. Focusing on how the Good News is still good news, Father Groeschel offers clear and concise answers about science, about Scripture, and about the Church itself. Renew your faith in God, in Christ, and in the Church to better weather the storm of secularism, skepticism, unbelief, and the temptations of the world.

This book is a journal made up of 111 articles that were published in our local paper. The woman who wrote the journal was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in December of 2006 and her goal was to help people understand what it was like living and coping with the disease on a daily basis. She wrote about her everyday life, her Chemo and Radiation treatments, her trip to Seattle for Cyber Knife treatment. She wanted people to know that it was possible to lead a somewhat normal life even though the prognosis wasnt good. She tried to give people an insight into thought process that a person with Lung Cancer goes through. The author bared her soul in these articles in order help others with cancer or who had loved ones with the disease. Ann Keefe was my wife, she passed away on April 15th 2009 and I had her Journey of Faith, Hope & Health published in her memory.
