Raised in Flatbush, Brooklyn, after high school he spent 6 years on Wall Street. After he saw Walt Disney's pioneering Skeleton Dance,Ó Barbera knew he wanted to draw animated cartoons. He worked in NY studios & then went to Hollywood. There, with Bill Hanna, he created Tom & Jerry, & transformed MGM's cartoon studio into the envy of the industry. When MGM closed this studio in 1957, Barbera picked up the pieces & used them to build a cartoon kingdom in the new world of TV.
