Long and Winding Road is a collection of eleven short stories. The value of a collection of short stories is that you can read just one story at a sitting (or two sittings for the longer stories), rest from it, and then dip in for another treat next reading session. Settings are primarily Australian, though one story is set in a fictitious ancient kingdom and one in northern Mexico and parts of USA. The short play is set in a nursing home, of all places. Readers will meet a range of interesting characters: Miss Magnolia (who has a secret!), Viv Black (who uncovers a secret), the trans-gender Al = Mara, the young loom-girl Therese who becomes Queen, the boy-wonder Agave (who was born without vocal cords! but is anything but mute), Mohair Mary, the talented and prescient Aboriginal woman Doreen, teen Essie/Esmerelda who discovers gold as she discovers her Self, the former sex-worker Penelope in a nursing home, Master Nathaniel who dies by guillotine (!), and dozens more. Some stories border on the bawdy (but nothing X-rated), some deal with tragedy and misadventure, some with romance and strong personal bonds. It’s like life. We trudge along life’s path – the winding road – dragging life’s burdens behind in the dust, not knowing what lies around the next bend. But always there are more stories to tell.

Most of my life I struggled to fit in and to be accepted. I felt invisible and that I didn’t have a voice. Through my journey of finding acceptance and purpose, I wrote my prayers to God in the form of poems and wrote moments that I encountered a lesson learned or a struggle. I needed an outlet, so I wrote. What I didn’t expect was by doing so, I would find healing, acceptance, and love. I came to know of a loving Father who showed me that I wasn’t invisible, but loved by Him and had a purpose. God had a purpose for my tears and put it on my heart to share my journey with others. You deserve to be noticed, cared for, and valued. You are not alone but loved. My prayer is with this book others can and will find comfort and hope as my struggles point them to a Loving God, Savior, and Friend.

As one hand reaches out to close the doors of inequity and despair, the other hand (right hand) of fellowship is extended to grasp a sincere understanding of joy, knowing the desires of your dreams are at hand. As I looked at life and sat in counsel, breathing new levels of hope and deliverance, I found joy in the works that were allotted in this gift of writing. My hopes and dreams is that this book would reach out to touch the lives of many with the understanding that if you give up on your dreams, restoration is not an option leading to a more profitable journey. I have lived every aspect of the words that I write, whether it was on a personal level or vicariously through the struggle of others. This is meant to bring hope to a wide audience and not just focus on one group. My message is one that is simple but of epic proportions when I speak love and encouragement. First learn to love yourself before you can share that love with others. Never settle in contentment when there are other aspirations to bring joy, understanding you are not in this struggle alone.
