John H Evans has been a commercial airline pilot and airline executive for almost 40 years. He grew up as an asthmatic child in the confines of the mining valley of the Rhondda in Wales and was drawn to flying largely by his memories of a Second World War Bomber Pilot from his own village who went missing later in the war. This story tells of his search for his childhood hero, a search that took him from Canada, through the USA, the UK and finally Germany. This book is full of Johns adventures in flying and his associated entrepreneurial activities in Europe, the USA and the Caribbean. He has inadvertently mixed with the Mafia, was almost involved in the escape from Britain of one of the key Train Robbers of 1963 and spent almost a week in 1971 flying John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Through his expertise he has been largely responsible for starting five UK airline operations, and in the Caribbean was MD of a local airline, during which time he witnessed, at close hand, the import of Russian arms into the Marxist run island of Grenada, where he and his family spent two years. He was astute enough however to leave the island before the US invasion began. From Miami, where he spent a further two years, he handled a number of aircraft franchises, which took him to most of the islands in the Caribbean chain, and the book ends with his departure from New York the morning before the Twin Towers attack Now fasten your seat belts for an eventful and stimulating read!

Transcon’s flight three seven departed from Los Angeles bound for JFK airport in New York. Sometime after they reached their cruising altitude, the first officer noticed the pressure dropping in the cargo hold below. Neither the captain nor the first officer was aware that a partially filled propane tank had been loaded into the cargo hold and was about to explode. “Mayday, mayday Transcon flight three seven. Rapid decompression, explosion onboard. Descending to one-zero thousand. Clear all traffic below!” These words echoed into the headset of the flight controllers at Lincoln Center and a desperate feeling came over them as they watched flight three seven descend on their radar screen.

This new, updated edition of The Battle of Britain on Screen examines in depth the origins, development and reception of the major dramatic screen representations of 'The Few' in the Battle of Britain produced over the past 75 years. Paul MacKenzie explores both continuity and change in the presentation of a wartime event that acquired and retains near-mythical dimensions in popular consciousness and has been represented many times in feature films and television dramas. Alongside relevant technical developments, the book also examines the social, cultural, and political changes occurring in the second half of the 20th century and first decade of current century that helped shape how the battle came to be framed dramatically. This edition contains a new chapter looking at the portrayal of the Battle of Britain at the time of its 70th anniversary. Through its perceptive demonstration of how our memory of the battle has been constantly reshaped through film and television, The Battle of Britain on Screen provides students of the Second World War, 20th-century Britain and film history with a thorough and complex understanding of an iconic historical event.

On the Wings of Angels (Book 3 of the Beyond the Blue Horizon Series), continues the saga of Otto Kerchner, the airplane-obsessed Wisconsin farm boy who becomes a hero of World War II in On Wings of the Morning (Book 1). He continued to lead his family, friends, and community into new ventures—and sometimes danger—in On the Wings of Eagles (Book 2). The latest in the series picks up in 1954 with an unlikely mix of elements: a minor league baseball team, mobsters from Minneapolis, a Soviet jet, family discord, sudden death, an aviation camp, a kidnapping, and a marauding bear. Meanwhile, the Kerchners, their friends, and their community cope with a changing world. Readers of the earlier novels have praised the easy style and realistic touches in the books which help recreate the ambiance and feel of those remembered years, including the simple pleasures of picnics, birthday parties, and pick-up baseball games. The characters are at once unique and identifiable, and their hopes, fears, and struggles still resonate today. This book is a must read among must reads for just about everyone.
