Correct diagnosis in dermatology depends largely on the identification and interpretation of clinical signs. The book is written by an international team of dermatologists, obstetricians and gynecologists and is the only comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic dermatology atlas covering evaluation, diagnosis and management. The obstetric content includes skin diseases and manifestations of systemic disease, which have an effect on the reproductive system, and the impact of pregnancy on the skin. Normal physiologic changes in the skin in pregnancy are also covered, along with the effects of vulvar viral disease and connective tissue disease on pregnancy. The second half of the book is devoted to discussing the many facets of vulvar dermatoses. The many updates and changes make the book accessible for the non-dermatologist reader.

There are many changes in the skin, hair, and nails during and after pregnancy. Patients are certainly aware that those changes are occurring, but few physicians and even fewer patients know how to predict the course of those changes. Pigmentary changes occur, but are they permanent? Can they be prevented or reversed? Hair may become thicker during pregnancy, only to fall out in the postpartum period. When will hair stop falling out? Will it grow back? What hormonal changes are occurring to produce these effects on the skin, hair, and nails? Will those hormonal changes affect other organs? Some cutaneous manifestations of pregnancy are common and recognized by most physicians. Abdominal striae, for example, are easily identified, but physicians have many questions about them. Why do they develop? Can they be prevented or treated? Other cutaneous manifestations of pregnancy are less common and recognized by few. For example, pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy is a debilitating condition that is treatable once diagnosed. Even more important than the treatment, the knowledge imparted to a worried mother that her child will be fine and that the condition is se- limited is priceless; but the condition must first be recognized by the patient’s physician. All of these questions and conditions are addressed in this extraordinary book. Pigm- tary disorders are addressed in detail in Chap. 2.

From the unique perspective of a board certified obstetrician/gynecologist turned board certified dermatologist comes a much needed text focusing solely on the cutaneous disorders that occur during pregnancy. Written with the insider knowledge that education on pregnancy dermatoses is often underrepresented in OB/GYN and family medicine programs, this text will aid these practitioners in correctly assessing these issues and discussing next steps with their patients so that the topic of skin disease is no longer a struggle. Although dermatologic disease in pregnancy is part of the curriculum in dermatology residencies, dermatologists and other physicians also may not feel as comfortable prescribing topical or systemic treatments in their pregnant patients. This book will not only provide in-depth information about physiologic skin changes in pregnancy, pregnancy dermatoses, and pre-existing skin disease in pregnant patients, but treatment options and medication safety for various conditions will be covered in detail. Cutaneous Skin Disorders of Pregnancy is developed by dermatologists and OB/GYNs and will serve as an invaluable resource for General Dermatologists, Obstetricians/Gynecologists, Family Medicine doctors and midwives who deliver and/or care for pregnant women.
