Kids love stuff that's gross. From the liquids, solids, and gases--especially the gases!--or their own bodies to the creepy, crawly, slimy, slithery, fetid, and feculent phenomena in the world at large, kids with a curious bent just can't get enough. Oh, Yuck! The Encyclopedia of Everything Nasty brings together, in one book, all the good things about some of the baddest things on Earth. Exhaustively researched and impeccably scientific, yet written with a lively lack of earnestness, Oh, Yuck! is an ants to zits encyclopedic compendium covering people, animals, insects, plants, foods, and more. Here are vampire bats, which sip blood and pee at the same time so that they'll always be light enough to fly away; and slime eels, wreathed in mucus and eating fellow fish from the inside out. Oh, Yuck! explains why vomit smells; where dandruff comes from; what pus is all about; and why maggots adore rotting meant. Other features include gross recipes, putrid projects, 10 foods that make you airborne, and more. With hundreds of cartoon illustrations and real-life photographs, Oh, Yuck! is the complete guide to the irresistible--at least to an 8-to-12 year old--underbelly of life.

Gross is back and viler than ever! From the author of Oh, Yuck! the perennial bestseller about science with over 610,000 copies in print, comes OH, YIKES!, an illustrated encyclopedia of history’s messiest, dumbest, grossest, wackiest, and weirdest moments. If kids think pus and gas are fun, wait until they hear the lowdown on the real Dracula, samurai, gladiators, guillotines and vomitoriums, pirates, Vikings, witch trials, and the world’s poxiest plagues. Impeccably researched, deliciously wry, and subversively educational (check out the toilet-paper timeline), OH, YIKES! covers people, events, institutions, and really bad ideas, alphabetically from April Fool’s Day to zany Zoos. Here are the Aztecs, sacrificing 250,000 people a year for the gods—and for food. Fearsome Attila the Hun, scourge of the steppes whose spinning eyes terrified his friends and whose mastery of horses terrorized his enemies (how does someone so evil die? Nosebleed!). Saur, the 11th-century dog-king of Norway (and not too bad as kings go). Henry VIII and his marital problems, the story of the Abominable Snowman and the Loch Ness Monster, why sailors in the old days preferred eating in the dark (hint: you can’t see what’s crawling in your food), and the answer to the question, “How did knights in armor go to the bathroom?” Topped off with hundreds of illustrations and photographs along with hands-on activities that bring the past to life, OH, YIKES! puts the juice in history in a way that makes it irresistible.

Is the point of belief and assertion invariably to think or say something true? Is the truth of a belief or assertion absolute, or is it only relative to human interests? Most philosophers think it incoherent to profess to believe something but not think it true, or to say that some of the things we believe are only relatively true. Common sense disagrees. It sees many opinions, such as those about matters of taste, as neither true nor false; it takes it as obvious that some of the truth is relative. Mark Richard's accessible book argues that when it comes to truth, common sense is right, philosophical orthodoxy wrong. The first half of the book examines connections between the performative aspects of talk (what we do when we speak), our emotions and evaluations, and the conditions under which talk and thought qualifies as true or false. It argues that the performative and expressive sometimes trump the semantic, making truth and falsity the wrong dimension of evaluation for belief or assertion. Among the topics taken up are: racial slurs and other epithets; relations between logic and truth; the status of moral and ethical talk; vagueness and the liar paradox. The book's second half defends the idea that much of everyday thought and talk is only relatively true or false. Truth is inevitably relative, given that we cannot work out in advance how our concepts will apply to the world. Richard explains what it is for truth to be relative, rebuts standard objections to relativism, and argues that relativism is consistent with the idea that one view can be objectively better than another. The book concludes with an account of matters of taste and of how it is possible for divergent views of such matters to be equally valid, even if not true or false. When Truth Gives Out will be of interest not only to philosophers who work on language, ethics, knowledge, or logic, but to any thoughtful person who has wondered what it is, or isn't, for something to be true.

World Peace: A Possible Dream by: Janie Guy Winter Janie Guy Winter will fascinate your mind through her Xlibris release. It is so UNIQUE, no matter kind of book you prefer, you will delight in its innovative literary approach. Safe to say, there is something for everyone in these pages. As ambitions as the topic is, its message might be the epiphany we are all looking for... whatever outcome, it’s a great read. It is a zany "soufflé" of humor, wit, gladness, and sadness through the eyes of today's times and yesterday’s nostalgia. Its fascinating style juxtaposes hilarity and seriousness and weaves these two opposites into a mind blowing experience. The book covers a cornucopia of information from past to present: including historical facts, personal stories, and ideas your imagination will love. It will leave your mind reeling with wonder! It presents the alarming societal and political problems (even dealing with the nuclear danger dilemma) that people struggle with everyday and puts a spin of realism and humor on them. As a whole, it inspires the readers with the feeling that changing the world is not impossible and that miracles of thinking can influence the whole of humanity leaving the reader with a viable vision of peaceful coexistence. “My hope is that this awakening will lead to a new universal international mindset, and this new universal international mindset will overcome the current way of seeing war, forever deleting war as an option to solve anything,” says the author.World Peace inspires readers with the knowledge that a beautiful, peaceful existence will soon be realized once the world’s ‘pioneers of peace’ are born. It is so enjoyable; you won’t want to put it down! The story is a perfect story for kids and family, a story anyone can relate to whether children or grown-ups. We all are going through life's daily adventures. It is full of entertainment. It is witty, educational, and full of adventure. It is filled with inspiring messages that will inspire not just kids, but the entire family: To see things and to live life out of sometimes what we are accustomed. In a sense, to enjoy life, to go with whatever the day brings us, whether it is difficult or a joyful, happy day. Especially in difficult days when someone is being extremely challenged with problems of the day and, in the midst of it, finding the solution not just for your problems, but how to help others overcome their problems In many cases we are all going through a pattern to try to help ourselves in the midst of trouble or difficulties, trying to figure out how to solve our problems or difficulties or whatever it might be in a sense without realizing that we are trying to do or to figure out something. Sometimes we do not have control over or things are out of our hands. They are in the hands of God always. He is the only one who has control over all things. That's why God always reminds us in all things to pray and to seek His guidance through all things and no matter what sin not. After all God says, in Hebrews 13:5, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" and in Matthew 28:20, "I am with you always, even unto the end of the world." Amen.
