Unravelling the mystery of God is something that is beyond the comprehension of man. It is mind blowing and explosive for man to want to unravel it by their own human understanding, knowledge, or intelligence. This can only be achieved through the help of the Holy Spirit. That is why when Jesus was talking to his disciples about his impending crucifixion and resurrection in John 16 verse 13 & 14 “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine and shall shew it unto you. Songs continue to occupy my mind. I view most songs as poetry set to music. I greatly admire people who write poems and songs. Some create both lyrics and music like embroidery, and their works greatly affect others. I desired my favorite songwriters and poets to be in one book. I suspect someday Kris Kristofferson, Leonard Cohen, William Butler Yeats, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and many others will be best friends. They all toiled in God's vineyard, producing good fruit. I'm hoping this book gets published before they all pass, so they can enjoy this tribute to their "fine wine." Poets and songwriters who speak to those searching for truth take time to admire beauty, and are uplifted by acts of goodness. Poetry and songs were meant to be enjoyed, recited, and sung throughout the day. One can experience encounters with God through such works. These show the best side of mankind.

Mr. Carnival, Where Were You? is a story about a little Black African boy who accompanied his mother and family and friends on a dancing journey on and around the coast of Africa during the European Missionaries' Christian celebrations. While everyone in attendance was tired, weary of a long journey, he was still dancing entertaining the audience. To honor his dancing performance, the Europeans called him Carnival, in English means "festival, or merrymaking, before Lent." While the European Missionaries' celebration was going on, the African slave trade began. He was captured by the Danes and brought to St. John in 1733. During St. John's slave rebellion, he stowed away on a French soldiers' sailing ship onto French St. Martin, where he continued his dancing performance. Everywhere he was dancing, people in the audience would gather together and sing and shout, "Mr. Carnival, where were you?"
