At all events my psychology has not been got up for the occasion and, though there are multitudes of books on Psychology which I should like to have read but have not been able, I believe I have read the best. In the notes will be found the names of the authors to whom I am most indebted; and I here acknowledge with gratitude that there is hardly a page that does not betray the in uence of Sir William Hamilton and Professor James.
