Excerpt from The Treatment of War Wounds The speedy exhaustion of the first edition of this little book has necessitated this second edition only about six months after the first was issued. The rapid progress made in the treatment of war wounds through clinical observation, but more especially by the active research work at the front, as well as at base hospitals and laboratories in England, France, and the United States, has been such that this edition is almost a new book, so largely has it been rewritten. The type has been entirely reset. The large space now given to shock, to the Carrel-Dakin and other methods of treatment, to fractures, tetanus, wounds of the head, chest, and joints, to gas gangrene, the Bull-Pritchett serum, orthopedic surgery, etc., will be welcomed, I am sure. The introduction of resumes of some of the more important papers, with appended short bibliographies, which will enable the reader to obtain fuller information, will commend themselves to those who wish for more. Even more fully than before I have had the efficient and welcome aid of experts in various special subjects, to whom my warm thanks are due.
